Snow Patrol has released ‘In the End’ as the latest single off the Fallen Empires set. I’ve blogged about the previous hits ‘Called Out in the Dark’ and ‘This Isn’t Everything You Are.’ Via their home page, the group confirms attendance at the Portugese summer festival Optimus Alive where The Stone Roses, Florence & The Machine and Radiohead will perform.
The X Factor winners Little Mix will need to sell a lot of copies of ‘Cannonball’ during the upcoming week to retain the top spot and become this year’s Christmas No.1. Usually, the winners’ debut singles are released on the week of the coveted Christmas number-one battle. And usually they win. Last year Matt Cradle won managed the feat with “When We Collide.”
Watching the latest episode of CSI: NY, I was introduced to ‘Never Let Me Go’ by Florence + The Machine. Played at the end of the episode ‘Means to An End’ (aired on CBS on 12/2), the track is included on the latest album Ceremonials, issued on Oct.28.
CHART SPOTLIGHT. Katy Perry has released yet another hit single from her Teenage Dream album. Again, Max Martin and Dr. Luke have written and produced ‘The One That Got Away’ which bows at No.22 on this week’s UK singles tally.
CHART SPOTLIGHT. When John Rzeznik wrote the lyrics for ‘Iris,’ this was a song breaking several years of writer’s block. Written for the movie City of Angels, ‘Iris’ was initially released by Goo Goo Dolls in 1998. Despite only peaking at No.26 at the UK singles chart that year, it has amassed more than 433,000 copies sold since the release.

Look out for Ville Eetvartti, whose ‘Lasikaupunki’ could end up as the Finnish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 to be held in Azerbaijani Baku. No stranger to fame, Ville Eetvartti rose to fame as one of the singers in the TV show ‘Clash of the Choirs.’ Singing Kings of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody,’ it’s no surprise that ‘Lasikaupunki’ sounds familiar to Coldplay. Last week, I wrote that Amanda Fondell probably wouldn’t top the singles chart with ‘All This Way.’ In line with last year’s Idol winner Jay Smith, Fondell would be the second winner ever not to reach the summit. I was wrong, aAnd I’m really glad for Amanda Fondell’s sake! Continue Reading
