With the help from the songwriters of hits with The Wanted, JLS and Cheryl Cole, Roman Lob is certainly ‘standing still’ in Baku come Saturday. We’re only a week away from the annual Eurovision Song Contest. I’ve listened quite a lot to the various participants who will compete Sweden’s Loreen.
Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ is the most successful winner ever in the history of Melodifestivalen. With 670,551 votes according to the news daily Aftonbladet, the singer easily took home top honors last night ahead of Danny Saucedo’s ‘Amazing,’ and is now set for Azerbaijan’s Baku this May.
Michel Teló is expected to resign the top spot to Loreen's 'Euphoria' as a number of Melodifestivalen are eligible to chart this week.
Snow Patrol has released ‘In the End’ as the latest single off the Fallen Empires set. I’ve blogged about the previous hits ‘Called Out in the Dark’ and ‘This Isn’t Everything You Are.’ Via their home page, the group confirms attendance at the Portugese summer festival Optimus Alive where The Stone Roses, Florence & The Machine and Radiohead will perform.
Watching the latest episode of CSI: NY, I was introduced to ‘Never Let Me Go’ by Florence + The Machine. Played at the end of the episode ‘Means to An End’ (aired on CBS on 12/2), the track is included on the latest album Ceremonials, issued on Oct.28.

‘212’ might be the breakthrough, Azealia Banks deserves. I just discovered this track as it’s currently B listed on BBC Radio 1. Initially released last December, it has taken awhile to grow its fanbase in Europe. The track appeared on Pitchfork’s Top 100 Tracks of 2011 ahead of the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z and Adele. Expect ‘Rumour Has It’ to become British singer-songwriter Adele’s next Hot 100 chart-topping single when it’s released later this month. ‘Turning Tables’ charted following its inclusion in Glee (where Gwyneth Paltrow performed it), yet it was never officially released as an Adele single in the US. A bit disappointing if you ask me, the track was issued as a single in Italy and the Netherlands for instance. Continue Reading

Currently climbing the charts with Chris Brown on the remix version of ‘Birthday Cake,’ Rihanna will perform at the annual Peace and Love festival in Borlänge this summer. According to DN, this will be her only concert in Sweden this summer. The festival will be held between 26-30 June. Skrillex, Kent, Bloc Party, Turbonegro, Veronica Maggio and Lars Winnerbäck are other confirmed acts. A year ago, I wrote about Jay-Z’s participation at the festival at Peace and Love 2011. As I predicted in earlier, Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ manages to dethrone Michel Teló’s ‘Ai se eu te pego’ on Diglistan, which is solely based on downloads and streaming. Following the countdown on the radio, I was thrilled to hear that Loreen sold by far more than her competitors. Continue Reading

The Wanted’s ‘Glad You Came’ takes a giant leap from 23 to 5 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, the highest peak ever for a UK boy band thanks to the recent Glee performance. I first wrote about The Wanted in the blog post Boy Bands Return with a Vengeance as the UK Welcomes The Wanted in August 2010. Back then, I was convinced that master producer Steve Mac would succeed in putting yet another boy band on the map. I also wrote about ‘Glad You Came’ upon its release last July. Continue Reading

Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ bows at No.12 on this week’s official Swedish singles chart, becoming the highest placed Melodifestivalen entry as well as the highest new entry. Loreen also places ‘Sober’ at No.60, a track that initially peaked at No.6 on the digital songs chart Digilistan upon its release last September. Continue Reading

David Guetta and Sia top the UK singles tally this week with ‘Titanium.’ Guetta’s album “Nothing But the Beat” moves 16-9 on the album chart, where Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” reigns. A worldwide hit, I’ve already blogged about Mary J. Blige recording a demo version of the track. It also turns out that Katy Perry was offered the track as well. Continue Reading

The Canadian singer Alyssa Reid got her European breakthrough tonight as ‘Alone Again’ immediately claims the runner-up spot on the UK singles chart. The single was certified double platinum in her native country, peaking at No.4. ‘Alone Again’ incorporates Heart’s 1987 hit ‘Alone,’ written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Continue Reading
