Lady Gaga’s debut album turns 70 weeks on the Billboard 200, still remaining strong at No.5. Sade’s Soldier of Love, however, has a firm grip of the Billboard 200 top spot, adding a third week. Still, no new single has been announced apart from the title track.

Will It Ever Happen All Over Again for Lonnie Gordon?

Philadelphia born Lonnie Gordon won her first solo record deal with Supreme Records back in 1989. Her debut single was a cover of First Choice’s “Let No Man Put Asunder,” but it was her next offering that became her breakthrough. Written and produced by British hitmakers Stock, Aitken & Waterman, “Happenin’ All Over Again” was actually written for Donna Summer.  The single peaked at No.4 in the UK upon its release in Jan. 1990.

The follow-up hit single “Beyond Your Wildest Dreams” stalled at a disappointing No.48 and not even the third single, “If I Have to Stand Alone,” managed to repeat the success (it peaked at No.68). Unfortunately, the debut album If I Have to Stand Alone never saw the light of day in the UK. In 1991, Gordon issued “Gonna Catch You,” produced by the Italo house act Black Box. The track was also featured in the Vanilla Ice movie Cool as Ice. That track made the Billboard Hot 100.

SWV Freed Willy with the Help of Chanting Michael

WelcheMusic takes the time machine back to 1990 when Sisters with Voices formed a gospel group. They later on transformed into the r’n’b act SWV. Their first single “Right Here” charted back in 1992. With the help of producer Teddy Riley, the group was signed to RCA Records. Their debut hit peaked at No.16 on the r’nb chart and the real breakthrough came with “I’m So Into You,” a No.2 hit on the r’n’b chart and a No.6 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

The international breakthrough came with a remixed version of “Right Here,” interpolating Michael Jackson’s original hit “Human Nature.” The song became a worldwide success, peaking at No.2 on the Hot 100 and No.3 in the UK. The new version also features Pharell Williams chanting “s…double…u…vee.” That version was also included in the film Free Willy.

The group took a pause in 1999, only to reunite in 2005. Wikipedia hints that there might be a new album out this year, but the group has not charted since 1998 when “Rain” peaked at No.25 on the Hot 100.

So far, SWV only charted in Sweden with “Right Here/Human Nature.” It barely reached the top twenty, eventually peaking at No.21.

An English version called “Kiss Kiss” was issued by Stella Soleil back in 2001. The track peaked at No.27 on the Billboard Top 40 in the US. The song was included on her album Dirty Little Secret. Australian soap opera actress Holly Valance recorded the track in 2002 and managed to reach the top of the UK singles chart. Valance made her breakthrough in Neighbours, just like Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia. It was also her first chart-topper in Australia.  Stargate made an r’n’b remix of the track.
