The Demonstration Transforms Lady Gaga Into Heavy Metal

CHART SPOTLIGHT. We have to admit, WelcheMusic is not into heavy metal. And despite the hype around heavy metal act The Demonstration’sLady Gaga’s cover of “Bad Romance,” the genre is still a bit too rough. As MTV News reports, Lady Gaga has actually given a nod to the North Carolina band and tweeted “Death metal with ice dancing + high fashion you get the Monster Ball” recently. The Demonstration is working on a new album, which is still untitled.

Lady Gaga issued “Bad Romance” in October last year. The track preceded her album The Fame Monster and was co-written by RedOne, who also produced the track. Lady Gaga hasn’t officially released any single since “Alejandro” in April.

UPDATE. The Demonstration has been in the studio all weekend tracking vocals. According to the MySpace web-site: “We should be totally done tracking in the next couple weeks and once the mix is done we’ll have new music for yall to bang your fucking heads to. Stretch your neck muscles and get ready for the sickness. We’re workin on getting a new layout done as well.”

Let’s see if The Demonstration makes a cover of “Born This Way As Well.”

Rihanna Knocks Cheryl Cole Off the Top After Sole Week

CHART SPOTLIGHT. According to Music Week, Rihanna manages to reach No.1 for the fourth straight year as “Only Girl (In the World)” denies Cheryl Cole a second week atop the UK singles tally. Rihanna’s chart run started in 2007 when “Umbrella” topped the chart and was followed by “Take a Bow” (2008) and “Run this Town” (2009).

It’s the first time the top four singles are performed by women. Cheryl Cole drops 1-2 with “Promise This,” Alexis Jordan debuts at No.3 with “Happiness” and Katy Perry climbs 6-4 with “Firework.” Jordan was an “America’s Got Talent” graduate and “Happiness” has already topped the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart.

Cheryl Cole’s drop prevents the singer from occupying the top slots on both the singles and album chart in the same week. Her new album Messy Little Raindrops becomes Cole’s second chart-topping album.

The X-Factor effect is obvious as Shakespear’s Sisters’ 1992 hit “Stay” vaults 64-12, following a performance on the show. Recently Adele’s rendition of “Make You Feel My Love” raced the charts after X-Factor re-activation.

Oprah Reunited Backstreet Boys

As Billboard previously reported, Oprah Winfrey managed to re-unite the Backstreet Boys on her “Teen Idol Extravaganza” earlier this week. Even Kevin Richardson, who left the band in 2006, made a welcome return performing the group’s biggest hit to date “I Want it That Way.” The band is expected to tour with NKOTB in 2011.

So far, Backstreet Boys never topped the Billboard Hot 100.  They peaked at No.2 with “Quit Playin’ Games (With My Heart)” in 1997. Their last album, This Is Us, produced two singles – “Straight through My Heart” and “Bigger.”

In an extremely slow week, the top nine positions are unchanged from last week. The first sign of change is Tinie Tempah’s jump from 13-10 with “Written in the Stars.” Tempah’s collaborated with Swedish House Mafia, who sits firmly at No.14 with “Miami 2 Ibiza.”

The highest new entry comes from Ke$ha, whose recent Hot 100 No.1 Debut “We R Who We R” bows at No.22. She beats the former US Hot 100 No.1 Far East Movement, whose “Like a G6” enters at No.47. The recent novelty hit “Barbra Streisand” bows at No.57, unable to surpass Pitbull’s new hit “Hey Baby,” which claims the No.51 spot in its first week.
