Chris Brown Climbs Aussie Chart with Benassi

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Despite getting its initial release back in October last year, Chris Brown’s “Yeah 3x” still lingers on. Charting at the end of January in the UK, it has peaked at No.6. In Sweden, it has so far reached No.12.

In Australia, Brown is currently in the top ten with “Beautiful People” which is produced by the Benassi brothers. The single is taken from the F.A.M.E.album and is an electro house song. Clearly, Brown is leaving his r’n’b roots behind.

The singer is currently charting with “Champion” as a guest on Chipmunk’s single. The track peaked at No.2 in the UK.

Will S&M become StarGate’s Ninth No.1?

CHART SPOTLIGHT. You’ve probably noticed by now how WelcheMusic proudly supports our Nordic producers Max Martin, RedOne, Shellback and StarGate. Per a recent article in Billboard, it’s clear that Norwegian StarGate has been so successful over the years and “S&M” with Rihanna could very well become their ninth Hot 100 hit.

So far, the team has scored the following No.1 hits in the US:

  • Rihanna – Rude Boy (2010)
  • Rihanna – Only Girl (In the World) (2010)
  • Rihanna – What’s My Name (2010)
  • Katy Perry – Firework (2010)
  • Wiz Khalifa – Black and Yellow (2011)
  • Ne-Yo – So Sick (2006)
  • Beyoncé – Irreplacable (2006)
  • Rihanna –  Take a Bow (2008)

Look out for Jennifer Lopez next single with Lil’ Wayne – “I’m Into You” might also do the trick and become a No.1 for the production team. They’re also working on material with JoJo, Kelly Rowland and have produced Blue’s “I Can” which will compete in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest for the UK.

Lopez Tops Swedish Singles Tally as Melodifestivalen Fever Fades

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Following the Melodifestivalen frenzy, the Swedish singles tally slowly comes back “to normal.” Eric Saade’s “Popular” is replaced by Jennifer Lopez’ “On the Floor,” her first ever No.1 in this country.

Lady Gaga moves 6-3 with “Born this Way” in its eighth week, at close distance of beating her No.2 debut. A WelcheMusic favorite, Swedish singer Veronica Maggio matches her No.4 peak of “Jag kommer” which continues to climb after falling out of the top ten a few weeks ago.

Following the debut of her new music video, Britney Spears takes a leap from 28-13 with “Till the World Ends.” Her former hit “Hold It Against Me” spends a 12th week on the tally, moving 40-33. Her new set Femme Fatale unfortunately makes a 5-7 drop in its second week on the album chart.

A year ago, Eric Saade topped the singles chart with “Manboy” while Rolandz topped the album chart with Jajamen.

Glasvegas Returns with Swedish Drummer

CHART SPOTLIGHT. The Scottish rock group Glasvegas returns to the charts this week and immediately claims the No.1 spot in Sweden. EUPHORIC /// HEARTBREAK \\\ is the group’s second set, following the eponymous 2008 debut. The debut managed to reach No.5 in Sweden, and was quickly followed by the Christmas EP A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like a Kiss).

Glasvegas recently recruited Swedish drummer Jonna Löfgren. A graduate from a university college in northern Sweden, Jonna Löfgren applied for the vacant position as she had learnt from Sony that the band needed to replace Caroline McKay. WelcheMusic would really like to have been backstage during that recruitment process.

To generate interest for the set, a free download of the track “The World is Yours” was made available on Glasvegas’ official website in mid-January.

The group’s biggest hit in Sweden is the 2008 single “Geraldine” which made No.25.  It also topped the native Scottish singles chart.
