Britney Spears Returns with “I Wanna Go”

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Britney Spears fans all over the world are trying to get their hands on coveted Femme Fatale tickets for the upcoming tour. Expect busy days for Ticketmaster when Britney goes on tour. Following her recent duet with Rihanna on “S&M,” a third track is issued from her latest set.

Produced by the Swedes Shellback and Max Martin,  “I Wanna Go” has already bowed on the Hot 100 as a digital download track off Femme Fatale. WelcheMusic has already picked up on the similarities with the Eurovision entry Eric Saade’s “Popular,” but according to Digital Spy, the track was written 1.5 years ago.

Don’t Mess with Jackie Brown

CHART REFLECTION. This WelcheMusic musical rendezvous takes us to 1997 and the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. Hot on the heels of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, Tarantino returned with a movie that got just as much appreciation for its soundtrack as its many stars. Featuring cinema’s first female action star Pam Grier as Jackie Brown, the soundtrack was filled with music from the likes of Bobby Womack, Bill Withers and the Delfonics.

Grossing more than $70m, the movie was built on Elmore Leonard’s novel Rump Punch. The soundtrack peaked at No.73 on the Billboard 200, faring slightly better on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart where it reached No.28.

The scene above is illustrated with Randy Crawford’s “Street Life.” Pam Grier and Robert Forster is driving to the mall. Originally recorded by The Crusaders, with Crawford as the lead singer, the track topped the U.S. jazz charts for twenty weeks and was actually covered by Swingfly – famous for his Melodifestivalen participation – in the ‘90s.

Where on Earth Did Ja Rule Go?

CHART REFLECTION. So what happened to Ja Rule? In the early 2000s, this rapper ruled the charts but he has been somewhat silence lately. A quick online search revealed that he serves a 2-year old prison sentence, which explains it all.

Fat Joe Hit

WelcheMusic’s absolute favorite is the 2002 hit “What’s Luv,” where Ja Rule was featured as a guest artist on Fat Joe’s hit alongside Ashanti. Peaking at No.2 in the US, this was actually Ashanti’s fault as she claimed the top spot with “Foolish.” “What’s Luv” is built on 2Pac’s “Niggaz Nature” and interpolated the classic Tina Turner hit “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”

Hit No.1 with J.Lo

Née Jeffrey Atkins in 1976, this Queens native rose to fame in 1999 when he debuted with “Holla Holla.” His biggest hit to date is the duet with Jennifer Lopez on the Murder Remix  of “I’m Real.” Originally a europoop hit, the track was re-worked into a rap hit with street cred.

Ja Rule actually managed to go all the way to No.1 in the UK with the 2004 hit “Wonderful” which featured R. Kelly and…again Ashanti.

Sean Kingston Awake after Accident

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Thankfully, r&b singer Sean Kingston is expected to recover within weeks.  A severe jet ski accident sent him to hospital earlier this week, where he is still recovering. According to New York Daily News, Kingston is awake in hospital, communicating with hand signals and facial guests. Swedish news daily Aftonbladet also highlights Justin Bieber’s support for the singer.

Née Kisean Anderson in 1990, the 21-year old Jamaican-American singer got his breakthrough in 2007 when he was signed by Tommy Rotem. He had discovered Sean Kingston on MySpace.

The 2007 debut single “Beautiful Girls” is built on the “Stand by Me” bass line and topped both the UK and US singles chart. It made No.2 in Sweden as well.  He returned to the top ten back in 2009 with the help of the Swedish Lady Gaga producer RedOne. “Fire Burning” reached No.5 in the US, peaking at No.12 in the UK.

WelcheMusic hopes for a speedy recovery!
