Don’t Hassle with Erik

So there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the reception of Swedish singer Erik Hassle in the UK. Some say that the positive reviews have been overrated, stating that the Guardian did not offically hail him (it was a freelancer who did). Who cares? The guy is fantastic and “Hurtful” must be one of the best pop tracks last century. Well, get this – the track has made its way onto BBC Radio 1’s rotation, which means it will get regular spins. The best of luck!

“Hurtful” will be issued in the UK in the beginning of February, and it’s the Starsmith edit that has been added to the playlist.

The Gym Is Calling

It’s the time of the year, when everybody hits off to the gym. What is a better way of getting inspiration than watch Eric Prydz’ video to “Call on Me.” The single held a rather unusal record, for a long while it the lowest-selling No.1 single ever in the UK. One of the reasons was that the digital download wasn’t an eligible format in the chart. A little more flattering is that the original artist, Steve Winwood, re-recorded the vocals  to “Call on Me” which was originally featured in his own hit “Valerie.” The track was a hit in 1982, but not as near as big as Eric Prydz’ hit.

New Dance Hit Based on 2Pac Sample Hits in the UK

Iyaz’ “Replay” bows on top of the UK singles charts, published yesterday. We’ve already covered Iyaz on this blog, and this success beats his No.2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 late last year. Dutch DJ Sidney Samson bows at No.2 with “Riverside,” a track that samples the voice of Tupac Shakur from his movie Juice. The song was initially issued in the Netherlands last spring, reaching No.8 on the Dutch singles chart. The UK release also features Wizard Sleeve on vocals and has been re-named to “Riverside (Let’s Go!).” 3OH!3’s “Starstrukk,” moves 6-3 with the help of Katy Perry. Florence + the Machine is on the rise as their rendition of “You’ve Got the Love” reaches a new peak at No.5 in its 34th week. WelcheMusic included Justin Bieber on the vol.2 compilation and he enters at No.14. Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind (Part II)” enters at No.35, while her duet with Jay-Z rebounds to No.18. Paolo Nutini remains at No.1 on the album chart with Sunny Side Up, with the help of a heavy discounted retail price. Florence + the Machine’s album Lungs moves 6-2, pushing Lady Gaga’s The Fame to No.3. The highest new entry comes from Elvis Presley’s compilation Elvis 75 at No.8.

ABBA is Back on the Chart

Due to the New Year’s celebrations, ABBA’s “Happy New Year” re-enters at No.9. It’s the third year in a row, as the song has re-entered the chart in Sweden both 2008 and 2009. It was orginally issued as single in 1980, following “Super Trouper.” As WelcheMusic previously reported, Linda Sundblad is on her way to get her biggest hit in a long time. “Let’s Dance,” is the sole new entry on this week’s singles tally in Sweden. Erik Grönwall remains atop with “Higher,” trailed by Darin’s renditon of “Viva la vida.”  Ke$ha moves 4-3 with “TikTok,” and make sure to download WelcheMusic 2 with the follow-up hit “Blah Blah Blah.” Rihanna returns to the top ten with “Russian Roulette.” In a typically slow week, the album chart has little change. Erik Grönwall remains at No.1 with his eponymous debut, while Black Sabbath enters at No.5 with Greatest Hits. Other newcomers includes Hästpojken’s Från där jag ropar at No.7 as well as Smokie’s lead singer Chris Norman, entering at No.17.
