The Wanted Lost Their Minds in 2010

2010 CHART REWIND. It all looked very promising as WelcheMusic cheered The Wanted’s chart career. “All Time Low” crushed all competition and landed the No.1 spot in a beat, while “Heart Vacancy” bowed at No.2. The UK welcomed the latest boy band with open arms. Something  happened, however, when the third single was released. Despite performing their last hit single “Lose My Mind” on The X Factor, the song entered at No.29 – an all time low for the band. This week it moves 29-19. In Ireland, the single peaked at No.43.

WelcheMusic is still impressed with the lineup of producers for this track. Rami’s discography includes Backstreet Boys’ “Shape of My Heart,” Britney Spears’s “…Baby One More Time” and *NSync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me.” Carl Falk has worked with Glee’s Matthew Morrison and Westlife while The Wideboys remixed tracks for Enrique Iglesias, Cheryl Cole and Katy Perry.

WelcheMusic still thinks that The Wanted makes excellent poppy tunes and knows that there are plenty of tracks off the debut album deserving to become pop singles.

UPDATE 02-05: The Wanted will launch the 2011 Comic Relief single – bound for a No.1 position.

Don’t Hold It Against Britney

CHART SPOTLIGHT. WelcheMusic is not the only blog to get all excited about Britney Spears’s upcoming track “Hold It Against Me” which is scheduled to premiere on Jan.7. The track will precede the upcoming album next March. The track is produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke. According to New York radio station Z100’s program director Sharon Dastur, fans won’t be disappointed. “The beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists – this infectious bass beat beneath the song,” says Dastur in a comment via Entertainment Weekly. “Plus, the hook is just amazing.”

Britney Spears’s breakthrough came almost exactly eleven years ago – “…Baby One More Time” was issued on Jan.12 in 1999. The single amassed sales of 25m around the world. To date, Spears has issued six studio albums.

The Glee Cast Covers Florence+the Machine

Madonna, Britney Spears, Journey and…Florence+the Machine. The Glee Cast is the Hot 100’s Digital Gainer and Hot Shot Debut at No.22 with a cover of the British indie rock act Florence+the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over.” In total, the Glee Cast have five new entries on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. This has also helped the original track which vaults 58-21 – matching the original peak.

The song originally charted back in December 2008, peaking at No.23 in the UK. The song has been included in the TV advert of Slumdog Millionaire. The follow-up single – “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)” – peaked at No.12 in June 2009. So far, the two biggest hits from Florence+the Machine are actually the same song. “You’ve Got the Love” reached No.5 in its original version from 2009, while a re-recording (featuring Dizee Rascal) earlier this year peaked at No.2.

The Glee Cast bows on the Hot 100 this week with a cover of Florence+the Machine’s “Dog Day’s Are Over.”
