T.I. Brings No Mercy to the Charts

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Southern rapper T.I. is back on the charts with his seventh album No Mercy, which bows at No.4 on the Billboard 200. T.I.’s big breakthrough came in 2008 when “Whatever You Like” topped the US singles chart. The track was included on his last album Paper Trail, which also featured the duet with Rihanna – “Whatever You Like.” Interpolating the Moldavan group O-Zone’s pan-European hit “Dragostea din tei” from 2003, the song rose to fame giving T.I. his second Hot 100 No.1.

Two songs have been issued from the No Mercy set so far. “Get Back Up” failed to crossover, finally peaking at No.70.

The rapper is currently charting with the second single “Castle Walls.” WelcheMusic just love this track, which certainly gives guest vocalist Christina Aguilera justice. The singer has had a hard time repeating the success from the height of her career. We’ve also reported on her recent collaboration with Cher, whom she performs with in the movie Burlesque. So far, “Castle Walls” has reached No.99 on the Canadian Hot 100 and No.70 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In Sweden, T.I. has peaked at No.8 with “Live Your Life.” His biggest hit was the Justin Timberlake collaboration “My Love” which peaked at No.2 in 2006.

Cher Re-Unites with Diane Warren in Burlesque Flick

Scheduled for premiere on Nov.24, Cher and Christina Aguilera headlines the upcoming movie Burlesque. Cher plays the proprietor of a burlesque lounge, where Christina Aguilera is hired as a cocktail waitress. Expect a lot of music in this flick, last week saw the release of Aguilera’s “Express” single to US radio.  “Express” is written and produced by Claude Kelly and Tricky Stewart. The track was promoted to US radio last week. This is the first track to promote Aguilera since “You Lost Me,” this July.  The single was the third and final release off the Bionic set.

The upcoming soundtrack also features the power ballad “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.” It is written by Diane Warren – one of the most prolific writers in history. Cher has recorded classic Warren tracks such as “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Save Up All Your Tears.” Cher hasn’t issued a single since 2003 when she recorded a duet with Rod Stewart called “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.”  The song was included on Stewart’s As Time Goes By album and peaked at No.17 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart.
