Rihanna Goes NBA with Drake

CHART REFLECTION. Rihanna celebrated her 23rd birthday performing at the halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game. According to Billboard, Drake worked “happy birthday” into the lyrics of their massive hit “What’s My Name?”. Rihanna performed several tracks, including “Only Girl” and “Umbrella.”

There were plenty of big names attending the games, and WelcheMusic doesn’t think about the sports men on the court. Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Diddy, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars and Ne-Yo were there.

The November release Loud has resulted in no less than four hit singles for Rihanna. Her latest hit “S&M” has caused some heavy reactions. Photographer David LaChapelle has accused the singer of plagiarism as the video is said to be heavily inspired by the shoots published in Vogue Italia between 1995-2002. The video has been labeled “inappropriate” by YouTube and BBC Radio 1 has renamed the track “Come On” in a re-edit.

Both “Only Girl” and “What’s My Name?” have become worldwide hits, while the third single – “Raining Men” (featuring Nicki Minaj)  – only charted on the US R&B chart, peaking at No.48 last December.

Britney Spears Unable to Replicate Stateside Success

CHART SPOTLIGHT. While Britney Spears broke several records on the Billboard charts, the singer was unable to replicate the success in the UK. On the singles chart, published on Sunday evening, Spears’s “Hold It Against Me” bows at No.6.

The chart sported no less than five new entries, but none was able to unseat Bruno Mars’s “Grenade” which retains the top spot. Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” vaults in at No.2, the track has been the most played track on UK radio, of those yet to be released. As WelcheMusic already reported, Diddy’s “Coming Home” bows at No.4 ahead of the grime act Wretch 32 whose “Traktor” beat Britney Spears by a margin, ending up at No.5.

Diddy’s Finally Coming Home

CHART SPOTLIGHT. The new Diddy song is absolutely irresistible. Recorded with his new band Dirty Money, “Coming Home” has already reached the US Top 20. Released in the UK this week, the track has a catchy melody, some guitar riffs and a compelling chorus. WelcheMusic crosses all fingers that it will make the top ten! The new song is the latest single off the Last Train to Paris album, which has spawned no less than five singles yet.

The track is produced by Alex Da Kidd, who also penned the Eminem & Rihanna duet and Jay-Z himself. Also look out for Skylar Grey who sings on the track, the talented vocalist who also helped out on writing “Love the Way You Lie.”

UPDATED. Jaay – Diddy beat Britney Spears and bowed at No4 with this single.
