When Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat Wrote History

WelcheMusic’s cannot resist checkin’ out the Current Track blog, who devotes today’s blog post to Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat’s duet “Lucky.” Not to be confused with Britney Spears’ hit, this “Lucky” was issued  in January 2009 as the third single from Mraz’s album We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.

Despite what you might think, this duet is historical. It won a Grammy Award in 2010 for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. A remix signed Lil Wayne was also released. So far, the track has only made it to the top ten in Holland, peaking at No.48 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was, however, a top ten hit on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts.

Jason Mraz’ biggest hit to date is by far “I’m Yours,” a No.1 hit in Norway, Sweden and New Zealand. It also reached the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart. In Sweden, Mraz topped the charts in two runs – only to be interrupted by Rednex “Football Is Our Religion.” Colbie Caillat’s had a multi-national hit with “Bubbly” back in 2007.

Do You Remember Him?

2009 was definitely the year Jay Sean broke. “Down” was a Billboard Hot 100 No.1, reaching and No.3 on the UK singles chart. Jay Sean is actually British, although the hit features rapper Lil Wayne as a guest. The BBC called him “the most succesful male U.K. urban artist in U.S. chart history.” He’s on his way to repeat this success with the follow-up track “Do You Remember.” It has already reached the top ten in the US, making waves in here now. The track features Sean Paul and Lil Jon. The track will be included on the WelcheMusic vol.2 compilation which will be issued later on.
