Oskar Linnros Makes the Final Leap to the Top Spot

In an earlier blog post, WelcheMusic highlighted that Shakira managed to top the singles chart last week with a hit that entered the tally in May. The feat is repeated this week as Swedish singer Oskar Linnros finally makes it to the top with “Från och med du.” Interesting to note, the track debuted on the same week as “Waka Waka,” which means that both tracks spends their 23rd week on the chart.

As part of the duo Snook, Linnros reached No.2 in 2004 with the Swedish rap hit “Mister Cool.” And as we’ve reported earlier, his rap partner Daniel Adams Ray recently made his breakthrough as a solo artist.  Adams Ray’s “Gubben i lådan” falls 2-5 this week, and is thus surpassed by his former partner.

“Från och med du” initially peaked at No.2 last month and his debut set Vilja bli peaked at No.2 upon its debut in June. The first single to be lifted off the set was “Ack, Sundbyberg” which peaked at No.52 this summer. In 2008, Oskar Linnros co-wrote Veronica Maggio’s second studio set Och vinnaren är…. The set spawned the three hit singles “Måndagsbarn,” “Stopp” and “17 år.”

Critically acclaimed, Oskar Linnros swept the Rockbjörnen Awards Ceremony this fall earning two awards – Breakthrough act and Song of the Year (“Från och med du”).

Robyn reverse a drop on the chart as “Hang with Me” bests its peak position to No.2. Shakira drops to No.3, while former chart-topper Hans Edler falls 3-4 with “Black Fender.” Swedish House Mafia & Tinie Tempah breaks into the top ten with “Miami 2 Ibiza.” The highest new entry comes from P!nk as “Raise Your Glass” bows at No.15. On the album chart, Håkan Hellström vaults into No.1 with 2 steg från paradiset. Robbie Williams greatest hits set bows at No.4.

60s Star Secures Swedish No.1 Position

In times when Shakira, Rihanna and Robyn rule the charts it’s quite a surprise that the Swedish pop musician, record company manager and concert promoter Hans Edler manages to spend a second week atop the singles chart with a Ricky Nelson tribute. “Black Fender” was initially performed in December 2006 during his “Hans Edler Meets Ricky Nelson” tour. Due to public demand, the track was finally released as a single following the overwhelming response as a crowd pleaser.

Hans Edler made his breakthrough in the 1960s, but has been denied mainstream commercial success. Only two of his albums have made it to the charts, Jukebox Graffiti 2 spent one week at No.46 back in 1978 while Remember the Sixties made it all the way to No.8 in June 2009. This fall, Edler presents a rock gala tribute to Elvis Presley with old-time Swedish ‘60s artists such as Little Gerhard, Rock-Ragge and The Adventures.

Shakira remains at No.2 with “Waka Waka,” followed by Eminem/Rihanna and Robyn. Oskar Linnros rebounds 7-5 with “Från och med du,” while UK/US chart topper Bruno Mars finally cracks the top ten with “Just the Way You Are.” Cee Lo Green’s “F**k You!” is also new to the top ten, moving 12-10. The singer made his breakthrough as one half of the pop group Gnarls Barkley. Upon its release, their debut hit “Crazy.” Cee Lo Green is expected to top the UK singles chart this Sunday, based on mid-week sales and the track receives most airplay on UK radio.

Cloth brand Lindex use of Marina & The Diamonds’ “I Am Not a Robot”  has propelled the track from 53-28-13-11. The Welsh singer-songwriter received her breakthrough on the BBC Sound of 2010, where promising new acts are highlighted. The track only made it to No.26 in her native UK, but has cracked the top ten in Norway.

Shakira Brings “Waka Waka” to the Top

Colombian singer Shakira finally ascends to the top in Sweden after 13 weeks. “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) ” initially debuted at No.18 in May. The single plummeted 27-44-52, reversing the drop on Jun.18 when the track rose to No.12. It finally cracked the top ten at the end of June and replaces Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” on the top.

The single also features the South African band Freshlyground, who was formed in Cape Town back in 2002. The group consists of band members from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The 29-year old lead singer Zolani Mohala reigns from Bhisho, the capital of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa.

A Spanish version called “Waka Waka (Esto es África)” is also available. The tack is also included on the compilation album Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album. So far “Waka Waka” has topped the charts in nine countries as well as the European Hot 100 Singles chart. It peaked just outside the Top 20 in the UK, while barely making the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Robyn Solo Dance Still Atop the Swedish Chart

Robyn holds forte on the Swedish singles chart for a second week running with “Dancing on My Own.” The track has spent nine weeks on the chart and removed Ola from pole position last week. Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP holds at No.2, trailed by Shakira who moves 5-3 with her Soccer World Cup Song. Eminem/Rihanna reach a new peak as “Love the Way You Lie” climbs to No.4. The chart is slow, apart from the fact that Ola quickly loses ground on the chart. His “Overdrive” was No.1 two weeks ago, fell to No.9 last week and ends up at No.54 this week.

Usher’s “DJ Got Us Falling in Love” is the highest new entry at No.54, which also welcomes new entries from Katy Perry (No.33), The Lab Wizard (No.42) and Alexandra Burke (No.57).
