Stevie Wonder Cover to Boost Esmée Denters’ U.S. Career

The 22 year old Dutch singer Esmée Denters premiered her cover of Stevie Wonder’s “As” via Billboard.com’s online music program Mashup Monday earlier this month. This might be just the right push for her career. Already a huge star in her native Holland, Denters is yet to break into the coveted U.S. market although she’s backed up by Justin Timberlake himself. Their duet “Love Dealer” was recently released in the States, but has failed to break.

Signed by Timberlake

Justin Timberlake discovered Esmée Denters on YouTube, where she posted covers of artists such as Timberlake and Natasha Bedingfield. Denters was signed on Timberlake’s own record label Tennman Records. Last May, Denters’ debut album Outta Here was issued in Europe and preceded by the title track as the first single. So far, that track has reached the top ten in the Netherlands, UK and Hungary. Her biggest hit in the UK to date is the Chipmunk duet “Until You Were Gone,” which peaked at No.3 this April.

“Love Dealer” is yet to make any impact on the main U.S. chart, so far peaking outside the top 20 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Written back in 2008 by Esmée Denters, Justin Timberlake and the production team Stargate, the song has also been recorded in a version featuring rapper Jay Sean.

Tarkan Faces Drug Charges

The Turkish pop singer Tarkan faces drug charges and is detained after a raid by narcotics officers. Née Tarkan Tevetoglu  in 1972, the singer was born in Germany but raised in Turkey. An English version called “Kiss Kiss” was issued by Stella Soleil back in 2001. The track peaked at No.27 on the Billboard Top 40 in the US. The song was included on her album Dirty Little Secret. Australian soap opera actress Holly Valance recorded the track in 2002 and managed to reach the top of the UK singles chart. Valance made her breakthrough in Neighbours, just like Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia. It was also her first chart-topper in Australia.  Stargate made an r’n’b remix of the track.

Lemar Vaults in to the Top Ten with the Help of Norway

Norwegian producers Stargate are responsible for the latest top ten hit from Lemar, “The Way Love Goes” which enters the UK singles chart at No.8. They have already collaborated on the hit “50/50” from 2003. As many young artists, Lemar’s career started in a talent show – the BBC show program Fame Academy, which preceded Idol. This March, Lemar issues his greatest hits collection with a few new tracks.  The singer teams up with immensly popular pop group JLS on the track “What About Love.” Another track, “You Don’t Love Me,” samples The Supremes. Lemar is of English origin and was born in April 1978.

Lemar’s “The Way Love Goes” is featured on the latest WelcheMusic compilation, which can be downloaded here.
