Loreen’s Euphoria on the Path to Eurovision Song Contest Success

‘Euphoria’ could very well represent Sweden in Azerbaijan
Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ was one of two winner’s in yesterday’s Melodifestivalen heat

28-year old singer Loreen won the hearts of the Swedes with the seductive dance pop track ‘Euphoria.’ Alongside Dead By April’s ‘Mystery,’ Loreen is qualified for the Melodifestivalen 2012 final at the Stockholm Globe Arena next month.

Same Songwriter As Norway’s Tooji

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll see Loreen on the stage in the Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan and she might be joined by Tooji, whose ‘Stay’ qualified in the last heat of the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix. Sweden’s Peter Boström has written both ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Stay,’ the latter sounding very similar to Eric Saade’s ESC top three hit ‘Popular’ from 2011.

Née Lorine Zineb Noka Talhaoui in October 1983, Loreen is of Moroccan-Berber descent. The singer made her breakthrough in 2004, as one of the finalists of Sweden’s Idol. She was actually picked as a wildcard by the judges, not immediately winning the public’s heart. Singing, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and P!nk throughout the competition, her first single was ‘The Snake’ with the duo Rob’n’Raz. Loreen also worked as a television presenter at TV400, which has changed its name to TV11.

Phenomenal Reaction in Social Media

‘Euphoria’ did not only win the first Melodifestivalen heat, the reaction on Twitter and in social media channels were nothing short of phenomenal. A tremendous performance, leaving many viewers breathless and questioning whether it was live or playback (it was live, believe me!).

Last year, Loreen made her Melodifestivalen debut with ‘My Heart is Refusing Me,’ co-written by her with Moh Denebj and Björn Djupström. Despite not qualifying for the final, the single peaked at No.9 on the Swedish singles chart and spent 19 weeks on the tally. I wrote about her chart success last year in Loreen’s Sweet Revenge. According to the Scandipop blog, Loreen calls ‘Euphoria’ very mystical and dynamic.

George Michael Donates Wedding Song

CHART SPOTLIGHT. George Michael has recorded a cover of the Stevie Wonder track “You and I,” which is available as a free download. The track was premiered on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” this Friday. Michael hopes that fans will donate money to the Royal Wedding Charity Fund.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry on April 29 and was a response to George Michael’s “expressing the marriage publicly.” Stevie Wonder has also cleared the free distribution of the track according to Billboard which also previews the track.

Rihanna Goes NBA with Drake

CHART REFLECTION. Rihanna celebrated her 23rd birthday performing at the halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game. According to Billboard, Drake worked “happy birthday” into the lyrics of their massive hit “What’s My Name?”. Rihanna performed several tracks, including “Only Girl” and “Umbrella.”

There were plenty of big names attending the games, and WelcheMusic doesn’t think about the sports men on the court. Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Diddy, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars and Ne-Yo were there.

The November release Loud has resulted in no less than four hit singles for Rihanna. Her latest hit “S&M” has caused some heavy reactions. Photographer David LaChapelle has accused the singer of plagiarism as the video is said to be heavily inspired by the shoots published in Vogue Italia between 1995-2002. The video has been labeled “inappropriate” by YouTube and BBC Radio 1 has renamed the track “Come On” in a re-edit.

Both “Only Girl” and “What’s My Name?” have become worldwide hits, while the third single – “Raining Men” (featuring Nicki Minaj)  – only charted on the US R&B chart, peaking at No.48 last December.

Stevie Wonder Cover to Boost Esmée Denters’ U.S. Career

The 22 year old Dutch singer Esmée Denters premiered her cover of Stevie Wonder’s “As” via Billboard.com’s online music program Mashup Monday earlier this month. This might be just the right push for her career. Already a huge star in her native Holland, Denters is yet to break into the coveted U.S. market although she’s backed up by Justin Timberlake himself. Their duet “Love Dealer” was recently released in the States, but has failed to break.

Signed by Timberlake

Justin Timberlake discovered Esmée Denters on YouTube, where she posted covers of artists such as Timberlake and Natasha Bedingfield. Denters was signed on Timberlake’s own record label Tennman Records. Last May, Denters’ debut album Outta Here was issued in Europe and preceded by the title track as the first single. So far, that track has reached the top ten in the Netherlands, UK and Hungary. Her biggest hit in the UK to date is the Chipmunk duet “Until You Were Gone,” which peaked at No.3 this April.

“Love Dealer” is yet to make any impact on the main U.S. chart, so far peaking outside the top 20 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Written back in 2008 by Esmée Denters, Justin Timberlake and the production team Stargate, the song has also been recorded in a version featuring rapper Jay Sean.
