Britney’s New Single Leaks

CHART SPOTLIGHT. No, we won’t hold it against you Brit. A demo of Britney Spears’s latest single “Hold It Against Me” featuring the singer/songwriter Bonnie McKee was leaked online earlier today. Picked up by the mainstream media and the blogosphere, WelcheMusic thinks the song is nothing short of phenomenal.

Or, in our ears it sounds a lot like ‘90s euro techno pop à la Sweden – think Da Buzz and E-Type. Pair that with contemporary dance techno such as Tim Berg. Back to Spears – “Hold It Against Me” is produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin and written by McKee herself.

Bonnie McKee has recently collaborated on compositions such as Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” as well as Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite.”

Will Kylie or Travie McCoy Take Taio Cruz ‘Higher’

hqdefault

2010 CHART REWIND. We’re definitely sure that Taio Cruz doesn’t look back on 2010 in anger. Few UK artists have earned such great success in the US as Cruz. His hit single “Break Your Heart” topped both the UK and US singles charts, while “Dynamite” reached No.2 Stateside while topping the tallies in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand.

As Swedes, WelcheMusic is particularly pleased about “Dynamite” being co-written by pop genius Max Martin. Another interesting note is that “Break Your Heart” was written for Cheryl Cole.

So, what is waiting in the wings for Cruz in 2011? In February his next single “Higher” will be released in the UK. The track has already charted internationally, peaking at No.10 in Austria, No.7 in Germany and No.5 in Switzerland. The track was co-written by Taio Cruz and the French song-writer Sandy Vee and has actually been released in four different versions.

Most territories will chant to Kylie Minogue, while Travie McCoy (of “Millionaire” fame) was chosen for the US market – the track has yet reached No.41. A third version is available with vocals from the local girl band K3, while a fourth is a solo version.

“Higher” follows the recent hit single “Shine a Light” which was released last November as a collaboration with British boy band McFly. The track peaked at No.4 in the UK, charting in France, Portugal and Scotland as well. It was McFly’s 15th top ten hit in the UK.

Rihanna Denies Take That No.1

Rihanna denies Take That its comeback No.1 as “The Flood,” fails to knock “Only Girl (In the World).” The group has campaigned hard, encouraging fans to support a discounted download via iTunes up until Saturday night when the final sales units were being counted. This means that Rihanna holds the top spot of both the UK and US singles chart – the singer elevated 60-1 on last week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart with “What’s My Name,” a duet with Drake.

McFly returns to the chart with Taio Cruz, whose “Shine a Light” bows at No.4. It’s interesting to note that Adele rebounds 19-9 with “Make You Feel My Love.” The song got renewed interest after being featured on X-Factor.

As previously reported, The Black Eyed Peas bows just outside the top ten with “The Time (Dirty Bit)” at No.11. Former X-Factor winner Shayne Ward bows at No.12 with “Gotta Be Somebody” – a cover of Nickelback’s 2008 hit.

The Wanted’s “Heart Vacancy” Confirms Boy Band Popularity

CHARTS SPOTLIGHT. Call it out for Jay, Siva, Nathan, Max and Tom – The Wanted – the hottest boy band this side of summer. “All Time Low” topped the UK singles chart earlier in August and the follow-up, “Heart Vacancy,” bows at No.2 this week. The Danes Cutfather, Jonas Jeberg and Lucas Secon have co-written the track with boy band veteran Wayne Hector (Il Divo, Westlife and Boyzone). The self titled  debut set The Wanted was issued today. The album includes tracks written by Rami (Britney Spears), Cathy Dennis (Kylie Minogue, Sugababes) as well as Taio Cruz.

WelcheMusic highlighted that the boy bands have returned to the charts in an earlier blog post. Despite being Irish-British, The Wanted’s chart career in Ireland has been rather disappointing. “All Time Low” only made it to No.13 and “Heart Vacancy” only manages to reach No.18 in its first week. It’s also interesting to note that the singles haven’t been released elsewhere.

For those who can’t get enough of this group, please read The Wanted: The Unauthorized Biography, which was written by Chas Newkey-Burden. Quite a feat to rack up an biography (be it unauthorized) in October upon issuing a debut single in July the same year.

But The Wanted should be aware, Westlife is expected to issue its latest album Gravity on Nov.12.
