Stay Awake Tonight to See Example’s Brand New Video

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Earlier today, English singer and rapper Example that his latest video “Stay Awake” will premiere tonight at Channel 4 at half past midnight. It will go to YouTube straight after, promoting the August 28 release.

“Change the Way You Kiss Me” Set the Example

WelcheMusic covered the release of “Change the Way You Kiss Me” which reached the biggest weekly sales to date upon its release this June. Expect the follow-up single to deliver in the same neighborhood as it has HIT written all over it. Similar to Calvin Harris, whose collaboration with Kelis rendered him a No.1 hit recently, “Stay Awake” is poppy, melodic and dance friendly.

Held Coldplay off the Top Spot

As Music News points out, Example managed to beat the rock giants Coldplay to the top and selling in excess of 20K copies.  The new single is produced by the dubstep wizards Nero and was written after waking up at Ibiza Rocks and seeing hundreds of kids still going from the night before. Example says “it’s about a messed up generation who spend all their money on partying and questioning whether or not it’s right. We spend all our money to stay awake the longest.”

Playing in the Shadows Hosts Top Names

The track will be included on the album Playing in the Shadows which is slated for a September 5th release in the UK. Example has worked with names such as Chase & Status, Nero, Michael Woods, Skream and Faithless on the new album.

Rihanna Graces Vogue Cover Nude

CHART REFLECTION. According to Celebs, the famous photographer Annie Leibowitz has shot new images of Rihanna where the singer goes nude – nude color, that is. The April issue of Vogue is definitely highly anticipated. Rihanna recently tweeted “Just wrapped my first American Vogue cover shoot with Annie Liebovitz… Rah! #SEXY.” She later deleted the tweet as Celebs comment, “[Rihanna] let the cat out of the bag too soon for Vogue’s liking!.

Despite being nominated for no less than five Grammy Awards last month, Rihanna and Eminem failed to win any of them with “Love the Way You Lie.” She had her revenge taking home the BRIT Award for Best International Female Artist!

Hugely successful, Rihanna currently charts with “S&M.” Not only controversial in its lyrics (UK radio station re-named the track “Come On”), the video was banned from YouTube and David LaChappelle claimed that content was too similar to his own shoots for Vogue Italia.

WelcheMusic notes that Rihanna unfortunately falls out of this week’s top ten as “S&M” drops 7-12 on the singles tally. The track has spent 16 weeks on the chart so far, since its debut last November. The track has topped the Australian singles chart and reached the top ten across the Nordics.

Alexis Jordan’s Happiness Factor Rose in 2010

2010 CHART REWIND. 18-year old Alexis Jordan certainly got her revenge. Following her elimination on America’s Got Talent in 2006, Jordan did everything but to give up. The singer attracted million of viewers via YouTube, where she put up covers of hit songs. She was subsequently signed to Jay-Z’s record label StarRoc/Roc Nation.

Her debut single “Happiness” was issued in September this year. Produced by the incredibly successful Norwegian team Stargate, the track made it all the way to the top of the Dance Club and Dance Airplay charts Stateside. To date, the track earned its biggest success in the UK where it peaked at No.3 in November. Unfortunately, the track hasn’t been issued in Sweden and is not available on Spotify.

“Happiness” samples Canadian producer’s DeadMau5’s “Brazil (2nd Edit)”. Do you recognize the sample below?

Coldplay Returns for Christmas

Chris Martin & co return with the Xmas track “Christmas Lights.” The track is co-produced by Brian Eno, legendary U2 producer and responsible for the UK No.1 “Heroes” with the X-Factor Finalists. The Xmas single is the first to chart since “Strawberry Swing” in September 2009. It was the final and fifth single off Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends album. The track bombed and only made it to No.158 in the UK.
