Skavlan Effect for Cheryl Cole

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Talk show host Fredrik Skavlan has repeated his effect on the charts. Following the breakthrough of Melody Gardot and Donkeyboy, Cheryl Cole got a healthy push after her performance on the show. Cheryl Cole’s status in Sweden is quite far from the “national treasure icon” in the UK. The former UK No.1 hit “Fight for This Love” charted at No.54 back in February this year. Before appearing on the Skavlan show, the track were stuck in the lower reaches of the singles chart. Despite getting heavy radio airplay, the song only made it to No.23.

That was then, this is now. “Fight for This Love” made a healthy jump to No.5 two weeks ago and is the runner-up to Edward Maya’s “Stereo Love” on the latest chart (from last week). We will soon learn to know if Cole’s able to unseat Maya’s seductive disco piece. If so, it will keep the tradition going as Cole’s hit has been around for a long while. It was originally issued in the UK back in October last year and has so far topped the charts in her home country, Hungary, Denmark and Norway.

WelcheMusic looks forward to Cheryl’s comeback on the show.

Update: Cheryl Cole spent a total of 23 weeks on the singles chart with “Fight for This Love,” finally dropping off in July 2010. It peaked at No.2.
