The announcement was preceded by a cryptic iTunes message which sparked rumors about this event. Years of dispute have prevented fans from purchasing The Beatles songs digitally. “It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. The complete roster of 13 studio albums is now available via iTunes. WelcheMusic hopes that the whole catalogue will be available via Spotify real soon.

On the latest Apple iTunes charts, The Beatles’ Abbey Road is the highest charting album at No.4 ahead of White Album (No.8), Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Band (No.9) and The Blue Album at No.10.

UPDATE. On Jan.23 2011, The Beatles remained atop the Last.fm weekly artist chart with 1.3m plays and 107,761 listeners.
