Polish Singer Sara May Is Running for Office in Her Bikinis

As reported by Thomson Reuters, singer Sara May is running for office in Warsaw. Née Katarzyna Szczolek, her message to the people is to ”try make the city a better place to live in.” It’s definitely the first time we’ve seen campaign posters where the politician is clad in a bikini. Add to that, the political debate is rather about any digitally enhancement of photography than her political program. According to Last.fm, Sara May’s most popular hits are “Nie odejde” followed by “Let it Rain” and “7 Minutes.”

Naomi Watts+Sean Penn=Gorillaz “Clint Eastwood”

Having just seen the terrific movie Fair Game at the theatre, WelcheMusic will choose not to comment on the political aspect. Instead, the soundtrack threw us back to March 2001 as the movie opens with Gorillaz’ “Clint Eastwood” in the background. Preceding their debut album, the track peaked at No.4 in the UK and No.57 in the US. Rapper Del the Funky Homosapien collaborates with ex-Blur singer Damon Albarn.

Music Week reports that the Gorillaz uses augmented reality layers in their recently expanded iPhone app. The group started as a musical project back in 1998 when singer Damon Albarn teamed up with cartoonist Jamie Hawlett, creator of the comic book Tank Girl. To date, the group has had one UK No.1 hit (“DARE” in 1995). “19-2000” topped the singles tally in New Zealand in 2001 and “Feel Good Inc.” was a U.S. Alternative Rock chart topper in 2005. So far, Gorillaz has issued three studio albums and 13 singles. In Sweden, “Clint Eastwood” is the biggest hit peaking at No.7.

Starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, Fair Game is a 2010 thriller based on the memoirs of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Gorillaz have expanded their iPhone app to add in greater augmented reality layers as part of their Plastic Beach shows next week at the O2 in London.

Markers located around the venue will allow people attending the show to interact with 3D models, go backstage and unlock hidden content such as submarines, pirate ships and Plastic Beach itself.

Westlife Plays it “Safe”

Westlife  returns with the new album Gravity on Nov.22. The set is preceded by the new single “Safe,” which will be released digitally on Nov.14 and physically the day after. The group hasn’t issued a single since “What About Now” last October. The Daughtry cover peaked at No.2 in the UK, eventually peaking at No.7 on the European Hot 100 singles chart. It was actually the only single to be released off Westlife’s last studio album Where We Are.

The group was formed in July 1998 and is still the only act to have their first seven (!) singles go straight to No.1 in the UK selling a total of 44m copies worldwide. Despite having enormous success, they’ve never managed to crack the US market. The debut hit “Swear It Again” was issued in April of 1999 and career spanning over more than ten years.

Westlife’s only No.1 hit in Sweden to date is “My Love.” It was the second single off the 2000 album Coast to Coast and a Swedish track written and produced by Jörgen Elofsson, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger. The single succeeded the Mariah Carey duet “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now),” which peaked at No.3 in Sweden and topped UK singles tally.

Cheryl Cole’s “Promise This” Hits the Dancefloor with Remixes

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Spotify UK offers no less than nine remixes of Cheryl Cole’s latest hit single “Promise This.” Released on Oct.25, the track has already managed to top the UK singles chart. It sold 157,000 copies in its first week, which is the biggest selling record for a non-charity single.

Digital Dog, Almighty and Jorg Schmid are among the producers who remixed the “Promise This.”  The Jorg Schmid remix is available on the Clubland 18 compilation album.

“Promise This” is written by the singer Priscilla Renea Hamilton who failed to garner any success with her own album Jukebox from December 2009.Producer Wayne Wilkins has previously worked on tracks with Keri Hilson, Leona Lewis, Beyoncé and Jordin Sparks.

“Parachute” was the final track to be issued off the 3 Words album. The song reached No.5 in the UK, peaking at No.2 in Poland and topped the Romanian chart tally this March. Cole also made the headlines the other week as she and X-Factor colleague Dannii Minogue snubbed Jamiroquai singer Jay K following a foul-mouthed rant before the group performed on the show. Let’s see if Cheryl Cole returns to Skavlan to promote her new album.

WelcheMusic update: “Promise This” never charted in Sweden as it was only released as a promo single back in October. It reached No.19 on the Belgium singles chart.
