Lady Gaga Destined for US No.1

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Lady Gaga is set to top the Hot 100 tomorrow, making it the 1,000th No.1 single in the History of the chart. “Born This Way” is also the title off her third studio album, which is scheduled for release on May 23. Sources say that “Born This Way,” which has been compared to Madonna’s “Express Yourself,” sold more than 450,000 downloads within its first three days of release since Friday 11th March. WelcheMusic expects the track to make a high debut on the Swedish chart later this week.

Britney Spears sold 411,000 downloads when she debuted atop the Hot 100 with “Hold It Against Me” four weeks ago. Flo Rida’s “Right Round” sold 636,000 in its first week of release; Black Eyed Peas’s “Boom Boom Pow” (465,000); and, third: Flo Rida’s “Low” (460,000) according to Billboard Biz.

Lady Gaga bowed at No.3 in the UK on Sunday, after just a few days of availability. She was beaten by Chipmunk’s “Champion” and chart-topper Jessie J.

Fingers Crossed that Love Generation Remains in the Competition

CHART REFLECTION. According to Sweden’s largest news daily Aftonbladet, pop group Love Generation might get disqualified in this year’s Melodifestivalen which leads up to the Eurovision Song Contest. Late last night, the entry “Dance Alone” leaked online. A 30 second preview was available on Amazon in the UK. The song was written by top producer RedOne of Lady Gaga fame.

The group, which consists of the four young girls Cornelia, Charly Q, Mikaela and Melanie is meant to compete on Feb.26 in Malmö. The Amazon incident might put an end to that.

At the end of November, Anders Fernette’s “Don’t Stop” was disqualified as it became available via MySpace. According to SVT’s (Swedish public service) strict rules, no entries are allowed to be played in public by no means. Fernette had to submit a new song within a few days.

This will not be the first time, Love Generation has made the headlines in the run-up to Melodifestivalen. Originally created by Korean electronics company LG Electronics, the group has been criticized  for its close involvement with a company as the competition should non-commercial.  Love Generaton’s eponymous debut single spent two weeks at the Swedish singles tally last June, peaking at No.45. The track was featured in the LG Viewty GT400 mobile phone commercial.

Neither Love Generation nor any representative from Melodifestivalen had commented on the story. WelcheMusic really hopes that Love Generation stays in the competition either with “Dance Alone” or another song.

Flo Rida Turns Around

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Originally released in November 2010, Flo Rida’s “Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)” makes its official debut on the Swedish singles tally this week at No.54. The Haiti-American rapper and singer Flo Rida, née Tramar Tillard (1979), got his breakthrough in 2007 with the US No.1 “Low” (feat. T-Pain). He has released three studio albums to date and was the first one to break Ke$ha on “Right Round” – a No.1 hit in 2009.

His collaboration with David Guetta yielded one top ten hit earlier this year, but “Turn Around” only made it to No.98 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track reached the top twenty in Australia and Germany.

WelcheMusic is eager to see if the follow-up single “Who Dat Girl” (featuring Akon) might just changed that. Released as the follow-up to “Turn Around,” it has so far peaked at No.29 in the US.
