Jennifer Lopez Re-Claims the Top Spot in Sweden


CHART SPOTLIGHT. Jennifer Lopez manages to steal back the No.1 spot from Eric Saade as “On the Floor” returns to the top for a second non-consecutive week. Saade drops out of the top ten falling 1-12 (!).

Rihanna beats the original No.7 peak for “S&M” with the remix version featuring Britney Spears. The renewed interest propels the track from 8-3 in its 22nd week. Spears’ own hit “Till the World Ends” vaults 9-4, its best position to date. The single bowed at No.23 five weeks ago, only to fall to No.38 the following week. It broke into the top ten last week and could very well become a lengthy chart hit.

The UK No.1 hit “Party Rock Anthem” by LFMAO breaks into the top ten, climbing 11-6. This week, Snoop Dogg and David Guetta also is new to the top ten with “Sweat.”

As WelcheMusic previously reported, Romanian vocalist Alexandra Stan is also making progress as “Mr. Saxobeat” vaults 49-14. The highest new entry comes from Lady Gaga’s “Judas,” which bows at No.19. The track also debuted at No.15 in the UK on Sunday.

 

Taio Cruz Goes Black and Leather


CHART SPOTLIGHT. Currently climbing the charts with “Telling the World,” Taio Cruz recently announced the title of his next album: Black and Leather. The singer is currently in Australia, having performed at Perth’s Supafest.

According to Starmometer’s blog, Cruz currently single “Telling the World” has the potential of being nominated for an Academy Award. The theme song of the new blockbuster movie Rio, “songs from animated movies usually get an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.”

“Telling the World” has so far only managed to climb the charts in Austria (No.21) and Germany (No.35), but hopefully more chart territories will be added. In Sweden, Taio Cruz has charted with three songs to date – “Dynamite” (No.9), “Break Your Heart” (No.6) and “Higher” (No.18). The latter is a duet with WelcheMusic favourite Kylie Minogue.

 

Kate Ryan Returns with LoveLife


CHART SPOTLIGHT. Expect Kate Ryan to hit the charts anytime soon. Her new single “LoveLife” borrows heavily from the alternative rock band Liquido’s 1998 hit “Narcotic.” Ryan recently released the new album Electroshock earlier this April.

Née Katrien Verbeeck in the small village of Tessenderlo, Belgium, the 30-year old singer got her debut hit in 2001 with “Scream for Love.” Kate Ryan’s breakthrough came with a cover of Mylène Farmer’s 1991 hit “Désenchantée.” Released in 2002, Ryan’s cover was the third single off the album Different. The hit peaked at No.4 in Sweden, No.3 in Norway while topping the native Belgian chart.

In 2006, “Je t’adore” was the Belgian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. It was also the lead single off Ryan’s third set Alive. Unfortunately, it never qualified for the final. The track was co-written by the Swedes Niklas Bergwall, Niclas Kings and Lisa Greene. The track peaked at No.21 in Sweden.

Throughout her career, Kate Ryan has recorded many a covers.  In 2007, she released a cover of Desireless’ “Voyage Voyage.” And in 2008, her rendition of France Gall’s “Ella elle l’a” charted across Europe. The singer included the two France Gall tracks “Babacar” and “Évidement” on the greatest hits compilation French Connection from 2009.

George Michael Donates Wedding Song


CHART SPOTLIGHT. George Michael has recorded a cover of the Stevie Wonder track “You and I,” which is available as a free download. The track was premiered on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” this Friday. Michael hopes that fans will donate money to the Royal Wedding Charity Fund.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry on April 29 and was a response to George Michael’s “expressing the marriage publicly.” Stevie Wonder has also cleared the free distribution of the track according to Billboard which also previews the track.
