LMFAO’s party rock anthem trails J.Lo

CHART SPOTLIGHT. The L.A. based electro hop duo LMFAO is trailing J.Lo in the UK with the latest hit “Party Rock Anthem.” A WelcheMusic favorite, the track features Lauren Bennett and GoonRock and has fared much better in Europe than in the US. Currently sitting at No.2 in the UK, the track has also made the top ten in Scotland, Ireland and Denmark in addition to Australia and Canada.

So far, it has peaked at No.78 on the Hot 100. “Party Rock Anthem” is the first single off the sophomore album Sorry for Party Rocking. LMFAO got its breakthrough back in December 2008 with “I’m in Miami Bitch” (clean version “I’m in Miami Trick”). A mashup version of DJ Chuckie’s “Let the Bass Kick” and “I’m in Miami Bitch” created a UK No.9 hit (titled “Let the Bass Kick in Miami Bitch”).

LMFAO was also featured on David Guetta’s hit “Gettin’ Over You” with Chris Willis and Fergie.

Waka Waka Soon Turns One Year

2010 CHART REWIND. Don’t be surprised if Shakira will celebrate her one year anniversary on the Swedish singles tally with “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” Featuring the South African afro-fusion band Freshlyground, the single initially charted on May.21st last year at No.18.  Facing an initially struggle, the track finally cracked the top ten in June. As WelcheMusic dutifully reported, “Waka Waka” finally ascended to the top last August. It finally dropped out of the top ten in December after a half year (!).

The track falls 42-41 this week and should be able to add another five weeks. The Colombian singer managed to succeed this chart success with “Loca,” which made No.20 last year. “Waka Waka” is by far Shakira’s biggest success in Sweden, beating the No.1 hit “Whenever Wherever” which spent 30 weeks on the tally in 2002. Surprisingly, her global hit “Hips Don’t Lie” only made it to No.45.

Two additional singles have been lifted off Shakira’s latest set Sale el Sol – the title track as well as “Rabiosa.”
