Singing the official Comic Relief song has become a surefire way of getting a UK No.1. Since 1995, only one hit single has failed to reach the summit – The Saturdays’ “Just Can’t Get Enough.” It would come as a surprise if The Wanted was denied the No.1 position. WelcheMusic thinks the infectious hit “Gold Forever” sounds like the perfect blend between Alphaville’s “Forever Young” and Katy Perry’s “Firework.”
As previously reported, The Wanted was set to bow on this week’s UK singles chart. Singing the official Comic Relief song, “Gold Forever” vaults into No.3. The dance-pop song is written by the prolific song-writers Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Claude Kelly.
In 1987, New Order got a huge hit with “True Faith.” Expect the song to return to the charts in short as this will be George Michael’s next single. Although not an official choice, Michael has decided to donate the proceeds to Comic Relief.
