Cheryl Cole Returns to the Charts with “Promise This”

CHART SPOTLIGHT. It looks as if Cheryl Cole will return to the charts at the end of this month. Scheduled for release on Oct.21, the up-tempo track “Promise This” has already begun to pick up airplay. The track bowed at No.47 on last week’s UK radio airplay chart. The song is produced by Wayne Wilkins, who was responsible for her debut hit “Fight for this Love.”

Set for release on Oct.24, Cheryl Cole will return with her second album Messy Little Raindrops. The dance-pop album was recorded in L.A. earlier this year. “Promise This” is the first single since “Parachute” reached No.5 in the UK this March. Lifted off her debut album 3 Words, Cheryl Cole managed to spawn three singles from that album.

Let’s wait and see if Cheryl Cole will return to Norwegian/Swedish talk show Skavlan.

Boy Bands Return with a Vengeance as the UK Welcomes The Wanted

CHARTS SPOTLIGHT. Who said boy bands were out of fashion? The British boy band The Wanted debuted atop the UK singles chart on Sunday with the help of producer Steve Mac, who certainly knows the genre. The debut hit “All Time Low” has already been a Top 20 airplay hit in the UK and reached No.19 in Ireland upon its release. In true boy band style, the group was formed through massive auditioning.

The physical CD single features a rendition of Cheryl Cole’sFight for this Love.” This means that The Wanted knocks Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP off the No.1 spot. Expect the track “Heart Vacancy” as the follow-up single.

Steve Mac debuted as a producer in the early ‘90s, producing artists such as Chad Jackson, Nomad, Undercover and Lindy Layton. His boy band list of merits began with the German group Caught In The Act, whom Mac produced a string of hits from 1993-1996. Come 1996 and the introduction of Boyzone, with lead vocalist Ronan Keating.

In 1999, Steve Mac launched another Irish boy band together with Ronan Keating – Westlife. Throughout the ‘00s, Mac produced a string of hits for both bands – including No.1 hits such as “Flying without Wings” and “Queen of My Heart.”

When Can We Expect to Hear Back from Cheryl?

CHART REFLECTION. The team at WelcheMusic is thrilled that more than 10,000 visitors have read the blog post on Cheryl Cole’s visit to Skavlan. The visit fueled sales of Cole’s debut hit “Fight for this Love,” a No.2 hit in Sweden which spends its 17th week on the chart this week.

Originally issued in October 2009, Cheryl Cole’s debut set 3 Words only managed to survive two weeks on the Swedish album tally, peaking at a disappointing No.42 position. So far, the album is certified 2x platinum in the UK and Ireland peaking at No.1 and No.2 respectively.

The title track, “3 Words,” has been issued in select markets reaching platinum sales in Australia. The track was co-written and produced by Black Eyed Peas’ member will.i.am. “Parachute” was issued this March as the third single off the set, and has so far reached the top five in the UK and Ireland and the question is if a fourth track will be lifted from the album.

You might recall that the Taio Cruz track “Break Your Heart,” was originally written for Cheryl Cole as one of two tracks exclusively submitted for the 3 Words album. A Polydor label boss deemed it too similar to “Heartbreaker,” which led Cruz to record it himself resulting in a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.

WelcheMusic’s looking forward to hearing more from Cheryl Cole and maybe, just maybe that other Cruz track will make the singles chart. In that case, “Stand Up” will be single number four.

Update: “Fight for This Love” logged a total of 23 weeks on the Swedish single tally, finally dropping off the chart in July 2010. So far, this is the only Swedish singles chart entry to date from Cheryl Cole.

Countdown to Sing in the Shower Day

Okay, WelcheMusic have to admit – we like singing in the shower. So, we were delighted to hear that we’re not alone and there’s even a day devoted for this and it’s happening tomorrow.

The day was actually founded to support the launch of JBL’s new two-in-one alarm clock and docking station OnTime Micro.  The JBL OnTime Micro Shower Singing Survey found that 82% of 18-24 years olds sing in the shower, but it’s not just for youngsters – almost half (49%) of people aged 55+ do it too. Whatever your age, let your voice ring loud this Thursday!

The JBL Shower Singing Survey named Shakira as the singer that most people would like to perform a shower duet with. You know, her taps don’t lie…

France is the top shower singing country in Europe, with 71% of our French survey respondents enjoying a “chantez dans la douche.”

WelcheMusic’s current shower favourites:

  • Lady Gaga feat. Beyoncé – Telephone
  • Cheryl Cole – Fight for This Love
  • Eric Saade – Manboy
