Flo Rida’s I Cry Lyrics Honors Victims in Norway

CHART SPOTLIGHT. US rapper Flo Rida earns his third consecutive No.1 hit in Norway as ‘I Cry’ ascends to the top in its second week. There’s no coincidence that Norwegians were quick to embrace the song which is based on Bingo Player’s 2011 track ‘Cry (Just a Little),’ which is in its turn built on Brenda Russell’s 1988 hit ‘Piano in the Dark.’

A part of Flo Rida’s rap is dedicated to the Utøya victims:

Norway, no you didn’t get my flowers
No way to sound better but the killer was a coward
Face just showers, the minute in a hour
Heard about the news all day went sour

According to the Norwegian media outlets  VG and På NåFlo Rida had wanted to come to Olso this July. I Cry’ bows at No.21 on the Swedish digital download chart, expect it to rise in the coming weeks. The track is also this week’s smash at the hit radio station NRJ.

‘Whistle’ Remains a Hit

His former hit ‘Whistle’ remains a hit in Sweden, according to SvD it currently sits at No.5. The track also remains within the top ten in Norway. Flo Rida also gets support from the our national female soccer team, who currently works out to a list including Chris Brown’s ‘Don’t Wake Me Up,’ Mohombi’s ‘Love to Party’ and ‘I Cry’ according to news paper Aftonbladet’s sports edition.

I’ve previously covered Flo Rida on WelcheMusic, back in January ‘Wild Ones’ was the comeback single with Sia and last February ‘Turn Around’ made a belated entry on the Swedish singles chart.

Rihanna to Peace and Love

Rihanna to perform at Peace and Love
Rihanna currently climbs the charts with Birthday Cake

Currently climbing the charts with Chris Brown on the remix version of ‘Birthday Cake,’ Rihanna will perform at the annual Peace and Love festival in Borlänge this summer. According to DN, this will be her only concert in Sweden this summer. The festival will be held between 26-30 June. Skrillex, Kent, Bloc Party, Turbonegro, Veronica Maggio and Lars Winnerbäck are other confirmed acts. A year ago, I wrote about Jay-Z’s participation at the festival at Peace and Love 2011.

Rihanna returned last year with “Talk That Talk,” which was preceded by the worldwide chart topper ‘We Found Love’ (featuring Calvin Harris). The follow-up ‘You Da One’ just missed the Hot 100 Top 10, while the title track is yet to reach the Top 30. ‘Talk That Talk’ will be released as a single in the UK mid-March.

In other news, Rihanna premiered a remix version of ‘Birthday Cake’ at the end of February. The track features Chris Brown and coincided with Rihanna’s 24th birthday. The original version was a 1:18 length interlude and was actually recorded at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in Denmark. I haven’t covered Rihanna properly since her collaboration with Nicki Minaj on ‘Fly’ last September.

Chris Brown Climbs Aussie Chart with Benassi

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Despite getting its initial release back in October last year, Chris Brown’s “Yeah 3x” still lingers on. Charting at the end of January in the UK, it has peaked at No.6. In Sweden, it has so far reached No.12.

In Australia, Brown is currently in the top ten with “Beautiful People” which is produced by the Benassi brothers. The single is taken from the F.A.M.E.album and is an electro house song. Clearly, Brown is leaving his r’n’b roots behind.

The singer is currently charting with “Champion” as a guest on Chipmunk’s single. The track peaked at No.2 in the UK.
