David Guetta tops UK singles tally with Sia

David Guetta and Sia top the UK singles tally this week with ‘Titanium.’ A worldwide hit, I’ve already blogged about Mary J. Blige recording a demo version of the track. It also turns out that Katy Perry was offered the track as well. Guetta’s album “Nothing But the Beat” moves 16-9 on the album chart, where Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” reigns.

I’ve already covered the highest new entry Alyssa Reid, whose ‘Alone Again’ bows at No.2. Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ moves 7-3 on its fifth week. The Belgian-Australian singer managed to get the one of last year’s biggest hit across the globe. Its success began last July, and a cover by Canadian group Walk Off Earth has also spawned widespread success as the video shows five people playing the guitar simultaneously.  It recently cracked the top twenty in Sweden.

Lana Del Rey’s single ‘Born to Die’ (No.9) cracks the top ten, while her album bows atop the album chart. The preceding single ‘Video Games’ moves 20-17 in its 16th week. The only other new entry this week is R.I.O’s whose ‘Turn This Club Around’ bows at No.36. German dance group. It has already topped the singles chart in Switzerland, hitting the top ten in Austria and Germany as well. It was released back in September 2011. It’s the first entry from R.I.O. ever in the UK.

The Canadian singer Alyssa Reid got her European breakthrough tonight as ‘Alone Again’ immediately claims the runner-up spot on the UK singles chart. The single was certified double platinum in her native country, peaking at No.4. ‘Alone Again’ incorporates Heart’s 1987 hit ‘Alone,’ written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.

Alyssa Reid was the runner-up for a MuchMusic Video Award in the Pop Video of the Year category in 2011. P. Reign is a Canadian hip hop artist/rapper of Guyanese origin.

‘Alone Again’ topped the mid-week sales chart but lost the No.1 position to David Guetta and Sia’s ‘Titanium.’ Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” bows at the top of the album chart. I wrote about Lana Del Rey’s phenomenal success in Germany in December.

Flo Rida Returns with Sia on Wild Ones

On the back of the hugely popular ‘Good Feeling,’ American rapper Flo Rida returns to the charts with ‘Wild Ones.’ Already a top 20 hit in Sweden, the track has just been added to the Radio 1 playlist.
The track features the Australian singer Sia on vocals. She got widespread recognition when she replaced Mary J. Blige on David Guetta’s dancefloor filler ‘Titanium.’  ‘Wild Ones’ headlines Flo Rida’s upcoming album “One One Rida (Part 2).”

Née Tramar Dillard in 1979 in Carol City, Florida, Flo Rida released his debut album “Mail on Sunday” back in 2008. His debut hit ‘Low’ features T-Pain and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks upon its release.

Mary J. Blige Is Finally Back with 25/8

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Ok, I had to admit that I was sort of disappointed about David Guetta switching Mary J. Blige for Sia on ‘Titanium.’ But, rest assured Blige hasn’t given up on us. As My Life II…The Journey Continues (Act I) is slated for November release, the aforementioned ‘25/8’ saw its digital download release earlier this month. Produced and co-written by Eric Hudson who previously worked with Brandy, Trey Songs and Jamie Foxx, the track was initially performed live on Good Morning America.
