Demi Lovato Rises like a Skyscraper

CHART REFLECTION. The former Disney Channel actress, now full-time pop singer Demi Lovato returns with “Skyscraper,” a ballad that deals with her recent challenges in life. The single will also pave way for her third album to be released this fall.

Quits Her Own Series

Only a few months ago, Demi Lovato was treated for physical and emotional issues. This turn in life subsequently led Demi Lovato to quit her own series, Sonny with a Chance. The show follows the talented Midwestern girl Sonny, who won a nationwide talent search thus moving to L.A. and star in a popular television series. The series follows her new personal and private life.

Née Demetria Lovato, the 18-year old chanteuse reigns from Dallas, Texas. She got her breakthrough in the Disney production Camp Rock with The Jonas Brothers. Lovato quickly became a Disney star alongside Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and aforementioned Jonas Brothers and she quickly found fame with the duet “This Is Me” with Joe Jonas.

Help from Beyoncé’s Producer

Demi Lovato released her debut album Don’t Forget in September 2008. It peaked at No.2 in the US and was followed by her first chart-topper – Here We Go Again, which was released in July 2009.

Her third set is expected to bow sometime in the fall and carry the title of the new single Skyscraper. Produced and co-written by Toby Gad, the German producer who also produced Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy” and Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” the single was released digitally via iTunes only yesterday.

LMFAO’s party rock anthem trails J.Lo

CHART SPOTLIGHT. The L.A. based electro hop duo LMFAO is trailing J.Lo in the UK with the latest hit “Party Rock Anthem.” A WelcheMusic favorite, the track features Lauren Bennett and GoonRock and has fared much better in Europe than in the US. Currently sitting at No.2 in the UK, the track has also made the top ten in Scotland, Ireland and Denmark in addition to Australia and Canada.

So far, it has peaked at No.78 on the Hot 100. “Party Rock Anthem” is the first single off the sophomore album Sorry for Party Rocking. LMFAO got its breakthrough back in December 2008 with “I’m in Miami Bitch” (clean version “I’m in Miami Trick”). A mashup version of DJ Chuckie’s “Let the Bass Kick” and “I’m in Miami Bitch” created a UK No.9 hit (titled “Let the Bass Kick in Miami Bitch”).

LMFAO was also featured on David Guetta’s hit “Gettin’ Over You” with Chris Willis and Fergie.

David Guetta Re-activates Album with Rihanna

David Guetta’s album One Love saw the light of day in August 2009. To date, the set has yielded no less than five singles. The set will be re-issued this November and include a brand new track featuring Rihanna. “Who’s That Chick?” is currently featured in an ad campaign for Doritos.

Released in April last year, “When Love Takes Over” was the hit that preceded the album. Featuring lead vocals by Kelly Rowland, the track topped the charts in Belgium, Czech Republic, Switzerland and the UK. The track failed to break in the US, peaking at No.76 on the Hot 100.

The second single off the album was the Akon collaboration “Sexy Bitch” (July 2009), which was followed by “One Love” (October). Two more singles were issued this year – Memories (featuring Kid Cudie) in March and “Gettin’ Over You” (featuring Chris Willis, Fergie and LMFAO).

Rihanna currently sits atop the UK singles chart with “Only Girl (In the World),” and as WelcheMusic previously reported her duet with Drake falls to No.7 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

La Roux Takes the Help of Kanye West on Re-make

According to L.A. Times’ music blog, British electropop duo La Roux won America over this past summer with their summer anthem “Bulletproof.” The track bowed atop the UK singles tally upon its release in June 2009. It made No.8 on the Billboard Hot 100 a year later and went on selling 1.7m downloads in the U.S. alone. The single peaked at No.47 in Sweden, making it the only entry on the tally.

The group was formed in 2008 and their first release – “Quicksand” – was released by the French indie label Kitsuné Music in December that year. La Roux second single was “In for the Kill,” a No.2 hit in the UK. The track will finally be issued in the U.S in a re-worked version featuring rapper Kanye West. La Roux’s frontwoman Elly Jackson said in an interview with Pop & Hiss earlier this summer that she always had faith in the single, despite it taking quite some time to catch on with the masses. Elly Jackson returns the favour as a guest star on West’s single “All of the Lights.” The list of A-list guests includes Elton John, Rihanna, Alica Keys, Fergie, John Legend, The Dream, Tony Williams, Kid Cudie, Charlie Wilson and Ryan Leslie. The track bowed on iTunes on Nov.2.
