Roman Lob Is Standing Still

With the help from the songwriters of hits with The Wanted, JLS and Cheryl Cole, Roman Lob is certainly ‘standing still’ in Baku come Saturday. We’re only a week away from the annual Eurovision Song Contest. I’ve listened quite a lot to the various participants who will compete Sweden’s Loreen.

Roman Lob won the honors of representing Germany via the series ‘Unser Star für Baku.’ He is also the singer of Rooftop Kingdom. Lob was born in German Düsseldorf some 21 years ago. No stranger to talent shows, he first joined ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’ back in 2006. It’s the German version of Simon Fuller’s Idol franchise. Lob, unfortunately had to quit the contest due to a vocal cord infection.

‘Standing Still’ peaked at No.3 I native Germany. The Poplight blog is happy about Germany’s choice of Roman Lob, leaving Lena at home this time. TV Latest says ‘Standing Still’ ‘sounds like a pleasant rebuttal to last year’s winning entry “Running Scared” from Azerbaijan.’

According to T-Online’s entertainment section Loreen remains one of the favorites to win this year’s ESC.

This Is JLS’s New No.1

CHART SPOTLIGHT. JLS’s “She Makes Me Wanna” claimed the No.1 spot with the help of RedOne and vocalist Dev.  As WelcheMusic predicted back in June, the track was unquestionable chart-topping material. This means that The Wanted’s “Glad You Came” will leave the top spot. The boy band’s breakthrough hit was the 2009 hit “Beat Again.”

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Will JLS score their fifth number one with “She Makes Me Wanna”?  Featuring the US singer Dev, the track is set to be released on June 25 and is co-written and produced by Moe Faisal and Swedish RedOne. The 21-year old’s song “Booty Bounce” was sampled on Far East Movement’s “Like a G6.”

2009 Breakthrough

JLS got their breakthrough back in 2009 with “Beat Again,” a No.1 hit. It was quickly followed by the second chart-topper “Everybody in Love” which was lifted off the eponymous debut album. The third hit “One Shot” peaked at No.6, and was quickly followed by the two No.1s “The Club Is Alive” and  “Love You More.” To date, the group has released two albums – the second one being Outta This World. The latter also produced the No.8 hit “Eyes Wide Shut” featuring Tinie Tempah. JLS was the runner-ups to Alexandra Burke on X-Factor in 2008.

New arena/documentary

According to The Hype Factor, a new arena/documentary movie has premiered named JLS Eyes Wide Open 3D.  Tickets have already sold out, but more screens to the cinema was added quickly.  The A Song for Europe blog referred the track to typical “RedOne fodder and sounds like Mohombi multiplied by four with the hook of Britney Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends thrown in for good measure.”

JLS Dethrones Rihanna

British boyband JLS manage to do what Take That couldn’t. Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In the World)” falls to No.4 in the UK as “Love You More” with JLS goes straight to No.1. The group releases the new album Outta This World tomorrow, which includes their former UK No.1 “The Club Is Alive.” Built on “The Sound of Music” from the Julie Andrews 1965 film, JLS topped the charts in July with their rendition.

We’ve covered boy bands before, and this fall sets some sort of record. Take That is back, Westlife returns with new material, but it seems as if the latest acts like The Wanted and JLS sit firm atop the charts. Outta This World contains new songs produced by well-known boy band producers such as Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Stargate.  At least, there is no change in terms of production teams.

The new No.1 – “Love You More” – also serves as the 2010 official Children in Need charity. JLS lost to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 X-Factor series.  Apart from “One Shot” in February 2010, the group’s four hit singles have all the No.1 spot in the UK. In addition, they’ve appeared on two additional chart toppers – The X Factor Finalists 2008’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s Hero and the Helping Haiti charity cover “Everybody Hurts,” that WelcheMusic covered in a previous post.

Coincidentally, JLS performed Rihanna’s “Umbrella” on X-Factor. The very same artist they dethrone this week. This September, the guys even launched their own condom range via Durex encouraging their fans to conduct safe sex.
