The French electronic music duo Daft Punk returns to the music scene with the soundtrack to the Disney movie Tron: Legacy. Consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the duo got their breakthrough in 1996 with “Da Funk.” Daft Punk’s biggest hit to date is the 2000 hit “One More Time” which topped the charts in Canada, France and the U.S. Dance chart. The soundtrack album to Tron: Legacy was issued on Dec.6 and has already reached the top of the UK Dance Chart. It is the first film score from Daft Punk. Thomas Bangalter had previously produced the soundtrack to the film Irréversible. In 2007, Kanye West sampled Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” on his UK/US No.1 hit “Stronger.”

Upon returning to the music scene, the soundtrack will be their first release since a live the live album Alive 2007 issued the very same year. A promotional video for the soundtrack cut “Derezzed” has been issued via the official YouTube channel. The song has also been released as an iTunes preorder single. The iTunes release of the album also includes the two bonus tracks “Father and Son” and “Outlands, Pt. II.”

Will Susan Boyle De-throne Kanye West?

Considered a classic before it was even released, according to a recent Billboard article Kanye West is likely to be knocked off the top spot by Susan Boyle. Despite the Glee cast’s fourth compilation album and Black Eyed Peas’ The Begnning expected to bow, neither one should pose any threat to The Gift – Boyle’s second album. A year ago, the singer topped charts around the world with I Dreamed a Dream. If so, Boyles will return to the top for a second time with The Gift, which entered the top spot a week ago.

Kanye West can’t be too happy about this, or The Black Eyed Peas for that matter. West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has so far reached top in Canada, while debuting at No.16 in the UK and No.19 in Sweden. His biggest hit in Sweden so far is the Jay-Z and Rihanna collaboration “Run this Town” which peaked at No.8 in 2009. In the US, he has scored two No.1s – “Gold Digger” (2005) and “Stronger” (2007).

The latest single to be lifted off the album is “Start It Up” which features Fabolous, Swizz Beatz and Ryan Leslie. The song is struggling, haven peaked at No.105 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has, however, topped the German Black chart. It followed the No.12 hit “Runaway,” which features rapper Pusha T of Clipse. The song was supported by a 35-minute short film directed by West. That hit even made the Swedish singles tally, peaking at No.28.

Keri Hilson Does Not Allow Boys

WelcheMusic looks forward to the upcoming Keri Hilson album “No Boys Allowed” to bow on Dec.21 via Mosley Music and Zone 4 Records. The set features tracks produced by names such as Timbaland, Ne-Yo, Danja (Nelly Furtado, Whitney Houston) and Jerry Duplessis (Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys).  Two tracks have already surfaced ahead of the release.  This September, Hilson issued “Breaking Point” which re-united her with Timbaland. The single was issued as a digital download peaking at the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No.44.

“Breaking Point” was followed by “Pretty Girl Rock,” which peaked at No.72 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It also made the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at No.40. An official remix is available with contributions from Kanye West. “Pretty Girl Rock” was produced by Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony.

Hopefully, the album release will spark some fire into Keri Hilson’s career. Her last album In a Perfect World… was preceded by no less than three Billboard Hot 100 hits, including the No.3 hit “Knock You Down” (featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo). Last year, Keri Hilson recorded “I Like” as part of the soundtrack to the German movie Zweiohrküken (Chicken with Two Ears). The song became her biggest hit ever in Germany, reaching No.1 in December last year. The song also reached the UK Top 40 following the TV adverts for 90210 in April this year.

Despite not being officially released as a single, a video was made for “Make Love” featuring Kanye West as Hilson’s love interest.  According to Last.FM, the most popular tune from Keri Hilson is “Knock You Down” followed by “Energy” and “I Like.”

La Roux Takes the Help of Kanye West on Re-make

According to L.A. Times’ music blog, British electropop duo La Roux won America over this past summer with their summer anthem “Bulletproof.” The track bowed atop the UK singles tally upon its release in June 2009. It made No.8 on the Billboard Hot 100 a year later and went on selling 1.7m downloads in the U.S. alone. The single peaked at No.47 in Sweden, making it the only entry on the tally.

The group was formed in 2008 and their first release – “Quicksand” – was released by the French indie label Kitsuné Music in December that year. La Roux second single was “In for the Kill,” a No.2 hit in the UK. The track will finally be issued in the U.S in a re-worked version featuring rapper Kanye West. La Roux’s frontwoman Elly Jackson said in an interview with Pop & Hiss earlier this summer that she always had faith in the single, despite it taking quite some time to catch on with the masses. Elly Jackson returns the favour as a guest star on West’s single “All of the Lights.” The list of A-list guests includes Elton John, Rihanna, Alica Keys, Fergie, John Legend, The Dream, Tony Williams, Kid Cudie, Charlie Wilson and Ryan Leslie. The track bowed on iTunes on Nov.2.
