60s Star Denies Secures Swedish No.1 Position

The Swedish pop musician, record company manager and concert promoter Hans Edler made his breakthrough in the 1960s, but has been denied mainstream commercial success. Only two of his albums have made it to the charts, Jukebox Graffiti 2 spent one week at No.46 back in 1978 while Remember the Sixties made it all the way to No.8 in June 2009. This fall, Edler presents a rock gala tribute to Elvis Presley with old-time Swedish ‘60s artists such as Little Gerhard, Rock-Ragge and The Adventures.

In times when Shakira, Rihanna and Robyn rule the charts it’s a quite a surprise that Hans Edler manages to spend a second week atop the singles chart with a Ricky Nelson tribute. “Black Fender” was initially performed in December 2006 during his “Hans Edler Meets Ricky Nelson” tour. Due to public demand, the track was finally released as a single following the overwhelming response as a crowd pleaser.

Shakira remains at No.2 with “Waka Waka,” followed by Eminem/Rihanna and Robyn. Oskar Linnros rebounds 7-5 with “Från och med du,” while UK/US chart topper Bruno Mars finally cracks the top ten with “Just the Way You Are.” Cee Lo Green’s “F**k You!” is also new to the top ten, moving 12-10. The singer made his breakthrough as one half of the pop group Gnarls Barkley. Upon its release, their debut hit “Crazy.” Cee Lo Green is expected to top the UK singles chart this Sunday, based on mid-week sales and the track receives most airplay in on UK radio.

Cloth brand Lindex use of Marina & The Diamonds’ “I Am Not a Robot”  has propelled the track from 53-28-13-11. The Welsh singer-songwriter received her breakthrough on the BBC Sound of 2010, where promising new acts are highlighted. The track only made it to No.26 in her native UK, but has cracked the top ten in Norway.

Manchester Duo Hurts Grace Grey’s Anatomy Trailer

On Oct.6, Grey’s Anatomy will return to Swedish TV screens for a complete new season. The ABC TV show has already premiered in the States. A trailer is currently showcased on cable network Kanal 5 and the TV campaign is also part of Sony Music’s promotional efforts for Manchester duo Hurts. The group debuted with the single “Better than Love” before the summer.

The track was primarily a hit on the clubs, while radio picked up “Wonderful Life.” The video has currently tracked 4m views on YouTube. “Stay” will be issued commercially later this year but is already picking up a lot of interest due to it being the soundtrack to the Grey’s promo trailer. It is already the second most played Hurts track on Spotify. Hurts also performed at the Propaganda festival this August and will return to Debaser Medis Stockholm this October.

Lady Gaga+Yoko Ono=True

Lady Gaga showed off her bottom, wearing a bejeweled catsuit when she performed on stage with Yoko Ono. The singers joined the stage at the We Are Plastic Ono Band concert at the LA’s Orpheum Theatre. Surprisingly, this was the first time Ono had made a concert in L.A. and the event was part of a series of celebrations for John Lennon who would have celebrated 70 this week! On Thursday, the movie Nowhere Boy starring Aaron Johnson premiered at the Egyptian Theatre.

Yoko Ono has topped the U.S. Dance Singles chart twice this year with “Give Me Something” and “Wouldnit (I’m a Star).”

Ke$ha Denies the New “We Are the World” U.S. No.1

It looked like a cakewalk. Assemble the best artists in the world and record the re-make of “We Are the World” to benefit the Haiti victims. Céline Dion, Kanye West and Barbra Streisand was unable to un-seat Ke$ha’s “TikTok.” It’s even more amazing, considering this is the ninth week atop of the Billboard Hot 100.

“We Are the World 25: For Haiti” enters at No.2, pushing Black Eyed Peas 2-3 with “Imma Be.” Ke$ha is on the rise with her second single as well, “Blah Blah Blah” jumps 22-11 – her collaboration with 3!OH!3. Jason Derulo gets his second top 10 hit with “In My Head,” following the success of “Whatcha Say” last year. Iyaz is also back with the follow-up to “Replay,” as “Solo” debuts at No.43. Rihanna enters at No.64 with “Rude Boy” and Monica is back on the Hot 100 with “Everything to Me” at No.62.

Dion, P!nk, Kanye Sing “We Are the World” 2010

Only a week after Simon Cowell’s feat to assemble Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart and Leona Lewis in the same room, comes the anniversary of “We Are the World.” Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie had already plans on making a re-record the track to commemorate the 25th anniversary in benefit for Haiti. Swedish producer RedOne has produced the track alongside Wyclef Jean and legendary Quincy Jones.

The new version was recorded on Feb.1 this year and luckily many of the artists were already in L.A. to attend the Grammy awards.  More than 75 musicians participated and the song was recorded at the same place as in 1985. The 2010 line-up is a walk of fame. Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion sing alongside Vince Vaughn and Jeff Bridges. Newcomers Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber contributes as well as the hip-hop stars Kanye West, Akon, Drake and Cudie.

The new video premiered during NBC’s coverage of the Opening Cermony of the WinterOlympics last night and the video has been directed by Paul Haggis of Crash and Million Dollar Baby fame.
