CHART SPOTLIGHT. This July sees the release of the new Colbie Caillat set All of You. The 25-year old singer songwriter hails from Malibu, California and got her breakthrough hit with “Bubbly” in 2007. It’s her biggest hit to date and the only track to reach the US top ten.

Grammy Duet with Jason Mraz

WelcheMusic has already covered the duet with Jason Mraz. Issued in 2009, “Lucky” received a Grammy nominee. It was included on Mraz’ set We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. Commercially, the track peaked at No.48 on the Hot 100.

Lead Single “I Do” Already Chart Hit

Already, lead single “I Do” has charted.  An upbeat folk pop song, the track has peaked at No.23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track was produced by Greg Wells (of Mika, Katy Perry and OneRepublic fame). He’s the front man of OneRepublic and his writing credits includes “Bleeding Love” for Leona Lewis and “Halo” for Beyoncé. In addition, the album track “What If” was originally featured in the movie Letters to Juliet, featuring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave.

Will S&M become StarGate’s Ninth No.1?

CHART SPOTLIGHT. You’ve probably noticed by now how WelcheMusic proudly supports our Nordic producers Max Martin, RedOne, Shellback and StarGate. Per a recent article in Billboard, it’s clear that Norwegian StarGate has been so successful over the years and “S&M” with Rihanna could very well become their ninth Hot 100 hit.

So far, the team has scored the following No.1 hits in the US:

  • Rihanna – Rude Boy (2010)
  • Rihanna – Only Girl (In the World) (2010)
  • Rihanna – What’s My Name (2010)
  • Katy Perry – Firework (2010)
  • Wiz Khalifa – Black and Yellow (2011)
  • Ne-Yo – So Sick (2006)
  • Beyoncé – Irreplacable (2006)
  • Rihanna –  Take a Bow (2008)

Look out for Jennifer Lopez next single with Lil’ Wayne – “I’m Into You” might also do the trick and become a No.1 for the production team. They’re also working on material with JoJo, Kelly Rowland and have produced Blue’s “I Can” which will compete in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest for the UK.

Katy Perry Gives E.T. the Remix Treatment

CHART SPOTLIGHT. The fourth single off Katy Perry’s album Teenage Dream gets the full remix treatment as a slew of remixes of “E.T.” debuts on Spotify. Released a single in mid-February, the single version features Kanye West as a guest rapper. The track is produced by Dr. Luke, Ammo and Max Martin.

It turns out that the track actually was intended for the rap group Three 6 Mafia. Ahead of the release, rumors said that “Peacock” was to be the next single off Perry’s sophomore set.  The follow-up to the US No.1 “Firework,” the track has so far peaked at No.3 on the Hot 100. It has currently topped the New Zealand singles chart, but is yet to chart in Sweden.

As “Firework” was inspired by the Jack Kerouac novel On the Road, there’s no question what cute little alien pops up when Perry sings about extraterrestrials.  The 1982 film by Steven Spielberg is one of few movies to be re-released not only once, but twice (1985 and 2002).

The Spotify remix E.P. features new versions by Tiësto, Benny Benassi, Dave Aude, Noisia and Johnson Somerset & John Monkman. When Katy Perry managed to place “Firework” atop the Billboard chart, it was the first time in eleven years that a female artist had taken three singles from one single album to the top.
