Glee Cast, Petra Marklund and Asaf Avidan are Autumn favorites

So, I was asked about the favorite music this autumn and the easiest way to respond is to check out the facts. I.e., what have I listened to via WelcheMusic last.FM. One piece has especially received a lot of spins. Blaine Andersson (played by Darren Criss) performed Imagine Dragon’s ‘It’s Time’ on The New Rachel episode earlier this season.

Another top hit is September’s Swedish song ‘Händerna mot himlen.’ Recorded as Petra Marklund, the track has become a chart topper for weeks on the download and streaming charts. Written and produced by Kent’s Jocke Berg, a whole album was recently issued.

The third most played song this month is the new version of ‘One Day/Reckoning Song’ recorded by the duo Asaf Avidan & the Mojos. Primarily a hit in Germany, the track is getting traction in other countries as well. Asaf Avidan hails from Israel.

‘Grenade’ Moves to Pole Position

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Bruno Mars is only one of six male artists whose first two solo singles manage to reach the pole position on the Billboard Hot 100 as “Grenade” finally ascends to the top. The track is taken off Mars’s debut set Doo-Woops & Hooligans and follows “Just the Way You Are.”  Produced by the production team The Smeezingtons, the track recently topped the Australian singles chart. It was, however, knocked off the top by X Factor judge’s Guy Sebastian whose duet with Eve – “Who’s That Girl– this week.

The other five artists who accomplished Bruno Mars feat are

1. Andy Gibb – managed to top the Hot 100 with three entries, “I Just Want to Be Your Everything,” “(Love Is) Thicker than Water,” and “Shadow Dancing” (1977).

2. Lionel Richie – “Endless Love” (duet w/ Diana Ross), “Truly” (1981).

3. Peter Cetera – “Glory of Love” and “The Next Time I Fall” (w/ Amy Grant) (1986).

4. Rick Astley – “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Together Forever” (1988).

5. Diddy –  “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” (w/ Mase) and “I’ll be Missing You” (w/ Faith Evans & 112) (1997)

As Billboard’s Gary Trusts points out and WelcheMusic totally agrees on, all artists but Rick Astley and Diddy had careers before the solo hits. Richie had a successful career with The Commodores, Cetera broke through with Chicago and Gibb was a familiar face of The Bee Gees. And Bruno Mars – he already topped the Billboard Hot 100 with B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You” and reached No.4 with Travie McCoy (“Billionaire”). Diddy peaked at No.14 with “No Time” as a guest rapper on Lil Kim’s hit prior to his first chart topper. The track appeared on her album HardCore.

Back to the Hot 100 – Katy Perry’s “Firework” falls 1-2, while Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” rebounds 5-3. Taylor Swift’s Speak Now remains atop the Billboard 200, trailed by Susan Boyle’s The Gift and The Glee Cast’s Christmas compilation.

Tinie Tempah Vaults To No.1 in the UK

This week, a 22 year old rapper called Tinie Tempah knocks Jason Derulo off the top with his debut single “Pass Out.” The track got heavy support from BBC Radio 1 and Zane Lowe declared it the “Hottest Record in the World Today.” A debut album is expected to reach stores this July.

According to an interview in The Sun, the song “is about getting so out of it that you pass out.” In addition to the singles chart, Tinie Tempah also tops the UK r’n’b chart this week.

Jason Derulo drops to No.3 after a sole week on the top. He’s surpassed by Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” at No.2. Wiley returns to the top ten with “Never Be Your Woman,” featuring vocals singer Emeli Sandé. Wiley  peaked at No.2 with “Wearing My Rolex” back in May 2008. That track was later sampled in Ironik’s song “I Wanna Be Your Man.”

Boyzone is also back with their 18th UK Top Hit “Gave It All Away,” with Ronan Keating and the late Stephen Gately on lead vocals. The song enters at No.9 and is written by singer Mika and produced by Ray Hedges. This is far better than the No.22 peak of “Better,” which was issued back in December 2008. “Gave It All Away” was able to bow atop of the Irish singles chart, knocking Jedward’s “Under Pressure” off the top. Boyzone made their debut in Ireland with “Working My Way Back to You.” It peaked at No.3 in native Ireland back in 1994 and was later released in French as “Te garder pres de moi” in 1997. It didn’t chart elsewhere. Their first UK No.1 came with The Osmonds’ hit “Love Me for a Reason.”

The singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding won a BRIT Award and sits firmly at No.4 on the singles chart with “Starry Eyed.” The track is included on her debut set Lights which debuts atop of the album chart this week. Lady Gaga’s The Fame falls 1-2 and spends its 60th week on the chart. WelcheMusic recently pointed out that the album turned 70 weeks in the US this week. Alicia Key’s The Element of Freedom remains at No.3, while the Glee Cast falls 2-4. Fueled by the success of “In My Head,” Jason Derulo bows at No.8 with his self-titled album.

The “Glee” Cast Will Go on Tour

According to Billboard, the “Glee” cast will tour. The Golden Globe award-winning high school musical recently topped the UK album chart with the first compilation of covers featured in the series. Only recently, “Halo/Walking on Sunshine” reached the top ten and the group has also revived Journey’s classic “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The “Glee Live! Concert!” tour will open on May.18 in Phoenix, Ariz. The Glee Cast has so far sold a total of 4.5m downloads. The tour includes seven stops and by May 29, the act will make their final performance at the Radio Music Hall in New York City. Read the full article, here.
