Blink-182 Tickets, Anyone?

The American pop punk group Blink-182 is back on the road, this time in the UK. Reigning from Poway, California, the band has so far produced five studio albums and 21 singles. The group’s biggest hit was the UK No.2 hit “All the Small Things” back in 2000. It followed their debut hit “What’s My Age Again,” which peaked at No.17 the year before. In the US, the group got its breakthrough with “Dammit (Grow Up)” in 1997. The fourth album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket was the biggest Stateside success selling more than 350,000 copies in its first week upon its release in 2001.

The UK tour sold out in minutes and an extra three dates have been added to the original schedule. Blink-182 hasn’t toured the UK in seven years. The support act will be You Me At Six. Their final album was the eponymous set Blink-182 which peaked at No.22 in the UK back in 2003.  A greatest hits set was issued in 2005.

Elle Goulding Revives Classic Elton John Track

We’ve already highlighted that David Bowie’s “Heroes” claims the UK top spot. One might think that there is a shortage of new material as the classic Elton John track “Your Song” is back on the charts. Easily one of the most covered tracks, Ellie Goulding the single is her most successful to date, beating the No.4 peak of “Starry Eyes.” “Your Song” is to be included on the re-release of her debut album Bright Lights.

In an unusual feat, the track has actually climbed 39-3-2 in its third week. One of the key reasons is its inclusion in the Christmas 2010 TV advert for the department store chain John Lewis. The new version was produced by Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett.

Originally titled Lights, the re-release of Ellie Goulding’s album will contain six brand-new tracks. To date, five singles has been lifted off the set so far.  Originally released in March 2010, the set knocked Lady Gaga’s The Fame off the No.1 spot. Goulding was born in 1986 and made her breakthrough via the BBC Sound of 2010 poll. She also earned the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. The singer is also the guest vocalist on Tinie Tempah’s “Wonderman.”

Westlife Plays it “Safe”

Westlife  returns with the new album Gravity on Nov.22. The set is preceded by the new single “Safe,” which will be released digitally on Nov.14 and physically the day after. The group hasn’t issued a single since “What About Now” last October. The Daughtry cover peaked at No.2 in the UK, eventually peaking at No.7 on the European Hot 100 singles chart. It was actually the only single to be released off Westlife’s last studio album Where We Are.

The group was formed in July 1998 and is still the only act to have their first seven (!) singles go straight to No.1 in the UK selling a total of 44m copies worldwide. Despite having enormous success, they’ve never managed to crack the US market. The debut hit “Swear It Again” was issued in April of 1999 and career spanning over more than ten years.

Westlife’s only No.1 hit in Sweden to date is “My Love.” It was the second single off the 2000 album Coast to Coast and a Swedish track written and produced by Jörgen Elofsson, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger. The single succeeded the Mariah Carey duet “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now),” which peaked at No.3 in Sweden and topped UK singles tally.
