Desert Rain Guides Edward Maya

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Almost a year has passed since Edward Maya seduced dance floors across the globe with the infectious “Stereo Love.” The Romanian musician has since managed to crack the US market, peaking at No.16 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the biggest Romanian hit ever in the US.

Fans surely welcomes the comeback of “Desert Rain,” where Maya reunites with vocalist Vika Jigulina. 2011 also takes Edward Maya on a world tour, including stops in the US, Brazil, South Africa and Dubai. WelcheMusic is particularly pleased with the upcoming album The Stereo Love Show, slated for release later this year.

We’re yet to track any chart peaks for “Desert Rain” (yet) apart from getting its breakthrough on the user generated Last.FM chart. The track holds the No.6 position for last week’s most played tracks. Despite “Stereo Love” considered a much larger hit, the follow-up hit “This Is My Life” was the most played track over the last six months.

Edward Maya Follows “Stereo Love” with “This Is My Life”

Edward Maya’s collaboration with Vika Jigulina adds a second week on top of the Swedish singles chart. In times where hits break through simultaneously around the world, it’s interesting to note that the song was originally released back in October 2009. Maya is hopeful to add “This Is My Life,” to his successful discography. The track was issued earlier this year and has so far charted in Holland, France and Romania.

We’ve already covered the worldwide success of “Stereo Love,” and according to the track’s Wikipedia entry it will become available in the UK in May. Not surprisingly, Maya’s A listed on the BBC Radio 1 playlist alongside Timbaland/Katy Perry, Kelis, Scouting for Girls amongst others.

The first two countries to embrace Edward Maya’s “Stereo Love” were Holland and France back in November last year. Today, it tops the charts in Slovakia and Sweden.

Romanian Edward Maya Seduces the Dancefloor with “Stereo Love”

24-year old producer and performer Edward Maya made his breakthrough in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 when his song “Tornero” went to fourth place. The song was performed by Mihai Traistariu . Maya returned to the charts last summer with “Stereo Love,” a track that has spread through Europe at a very slow pace.  The song initially made it to No.2 in native Romania, adding No.1 positions in France, Estonia and Holland. It also peaked at No.2 in Russia and Belgium.

The track borrows heavily from Azerbaijani  composer Eldar Mansurov’s 1989 composition “Bayatilar.” Apparently, Maya had failed to make contact with Mansurov in order to clear the sample. This has now been rectified and Mansurov received writer’s credits.

“Stereo Love” has cracked the top ten in Sweden on the singles chart published last Thursday. A sure bet is that the track will best the No.7 position.

The track features Vika Jigulina on vocals.
