The Wanted Takes Gold Forever to the Top 3

CHART SPOTLIGHT. As previously reported, The Wanted was set to bow on this week’s UK singles chart.  Singing the official Comic Relief song, “Gold Forever” vaults into No.3. The dance-pop song is written by the prolific song-writers Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Claude Kelly.

The song was performed live on the Red Nose Day 2011 event on March 18 and is The Wanted’s fourth single to date. WelcheMusic covered the group’s breakthrough in August last year with the No.1 single “All Time Low.”

The Girls Aloud member Kimberly Walsh is featured as guest vocalist. To date, the track has also charted at No.17 in Ireland. Last year, Aggro Santos participated in Britain’s Got Talent, ending up at sixth place.

September Retains Top Spot in Sweden

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Née Petra Marklund, Swedish vocalist September has become one of the hottest acts on the scene following her participation in the national TV show Så mycket bättre. Built on a concept where seven artists perform each other’s songs, the show has become an instant hit on the TV 4 channel.

So successful that five tracks from the show currently charts in Sweden. September’s euro cover of Petter’s rap hit “Mikrofonkåt” retains the top spot for a second week. The original version only made it to No.53 in Sweden back in 1999, yet it was included on Petter’s No.1 album Bananrepubliken.

It’s the first Swedish No.1 hit ever for September who previously reached No.5 with “Can’t Get Over You” and “Until I Die” back in 2007. She debuted in 2003 with “La La La (Never Give It Up).”

Her next album Love CPR is scheduled for release some time in 2011 and the first single, “Resuscitate Me” bows at No.45 on this week’s Swedish singles tally. The track has been written and produced by boy band producers Cutfather, Wayne Hector and Jonas Jeberg. This is the first single (apart from “Mikrofonkåt”) from September since “Because I Love You (September Song)” from 2008, a track that earned her significant success in Eastern Europe.

September has even had Stateside success as “Satellites” made No.8 on the Billboard dance charts in 2005. This was repeated with the No.1 hit “Cry for You” (2006) and “Can’t Get Over You” (No.12 in 2007). September has also had three UK singles hits.

JLS Dethrones Rihanna

British boyband JLS manage to do what Take That couldn’t. Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In the World)” falls to No.4 in the UK as “Love You More” with JLS goes straight to No.1. The group releases the new album Outta This World tomorrow, which includes their former UK No.1 “The Club Is Alive.” Built on “The Sound of Music” from the Julie Andrews 1965 film, JLS topped the charts in July with their rendition.

We’ve covered boy bands before, and this fall sets some sort of record. Take That is back, Westlife returns with new material, but it seems as if the latest acts like The Wanted and JLS sit firm atop the charts. Outta This World contains new songs produced by well-known boy band producers such as Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Stargate.  At least, there is no change in terms of production teams.

The new No.1 – “Love You More” – also serves as the 2010 official Children in Need charity. JLS lost to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 X-Factor series.  Apart from “One Shot” in February 2010, the group’s four hit singles have all the No.1 spot in the UK. In addition, they’ve appeared on two additional chart toppers – The X Factor Finalists 2008’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s Hero and the Helping Haiti charity cover “Everybody Hurts,” that WelcheMusic covered in a previous post.

Coincidentally, JLS performed Rihanna’s “Umbrella” on X-Factor. The very same artist they dethrone this week. This September, the guys even launched their own condom range via Durex encouraging their fans to conduct safe sex.
