Ms. Dynamite returns to the charts with ‘Neva Soft.’

CHART SPOTLIGHT. ‘Neva Soft’ is the latest single from Ms. Dynamite. Entering No.33 on this week’s UK singles tally, the track is produced by Labrinth. He has already a successful string of hits, haven collaborated with Tinie Tempah on ‘Pass Out’ and ‘Frisky.’

I’m really keen on getting more info on the upcoming third studio album from Ms. Dynamite, which follows A Little Deeper and Judgement Days. The new single is her eighth top 40 hit in her career.

Née Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley in 1981, this 30 year-old singer grew up listening to reggae and hip hop music. Chances are that she would end up a school teacher or social worker, which was part of her list of dream jobs (after musician).

‘Neva Soft’ follows ‘Lights On’ which peaked at No.4 at the end of December last year. It was actually predicted to bow at No.2 behind Matt Cardle’s ‘When We Collide’ – a track previously covered by WelcheMusic. Ms. Dynamite was credited as a featured rapper on ‘Lights On,’ which was Katy B’s second single from her debut album.

According to This Is London, Ms. Dynamite is one of the most respected artists in the UK. Throughout her career the singer has won three MOBO’s, two Brit Awards and the NSPCC received a £20,000 donation after her winning the Mercury Music Prize.

3am interviewed her earlier on the naughty single name of Ms Dynamite’s “conjures up all sorts of sordid thoughts in our innocent minds.”

Will JLS Score a No.1 with Dev & RedOne?

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Will JLS score their fifth number one with “She Makes Me Wanna”?  Featuring the US singer Dev, the track is set to be released on June 25 and is co-written and produced by Moe Faisal and Swedish RedOne. The 21-year old’s song “Booty Bounce” was sampled on Far East Movement’s “Like a G6.”

2009 Breakthrough

JLS got their breakthrough back in 2009 with “Beat Again,” a No.1 hit. It was quickly followed by the second chart-topper “Everybody in Love” which was lifted off the eponymous debut album. The third hit “One Shot” peaked at No.6, and was quickly followed by the two No.1s “The Club Is Alive” and  “Love You More.” To date, the group has released two albums – the second one being Outta This World. The latter also produced the No.8 hit “Eyes Wide Shut” featuring Tinie Tempah. JLS was the runner-ups to Alexandra Burke on X-Factor in 2008.

New arena/documentary

According to The Hype Factor, a new arena/documentary movie has premiered named JLS Eyes Wide Open 3D.  Tickets have already sold out, but more screens to the cinema was added quickly.  The A Song for Europe blog referred the track to typical “RedOne fodder and sounds like Mohombi multiplied by four with the hook of Britney Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends thrown in for good measure.”

Check out the latest hit “Save the World” which dropped five places to No.22 on the UK singles chart on Sunday. The track has reached No.6 in Sweden.

The group’s debut single came in 2007. A collaboration with Laidback Luke, “Get Dumb” failed to make any real chart impact. The first chart hit was “Leave the World Behind,” another Laidback Luke song featuring Deborah Cox. Come 2010 and the worldwide smash hits “One” and “Miami 2 Ibiza” – both UK top ten hits.

Adele Single-Handily Makes Up for Albums Dip

CHART SPOTLIGHT. According to MusicWeek, one out of ten albums sold in the UK was Adele’s. Her amazing performance helped  the whole market to survive a slump. Her 21 album still tops the UK album chart, while Adele’s debut 19 resurged in sales. In total, 2.22m copies were shifted in the first quarter resulting in a 1.5% growth year-on-year. Subtracting Adele’s figures, the record market would drop 8.7% year-on-year instead. WelcheMusic will keep a close eye on the development.

Not since Dire Straits’ 1986 set Brothers in Arms, an album has spent that many weeks atop the album chart in the UK.
