Rihanna Knocks Cheryl Cole Off the Top After Sole Week

CHART SPOTLIGHT. According to Music Week, Rihanna manages to reach No.1 for the fourth straight year as “Only Girl (In the World)” denies Cheryl Cole a second week atop the UK singles tally. Rihanna’s chart run started in 2007 when “Umbrella” topped the chart and was followed by “Take a Bow” (2008) and “Run this Town” (2009).

It’s the first time the top four singles are performed by women. Cheryl Cole drops 1-2 with “Promise This,” Alexis Jordan debuts at No.3 with “Happiness” and Katy Perry climbs 6-4 with “Firework.” Jordan was an “America’s Got Talent” graduate and “Happiness” has already topped the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart.

Cheryl Cole’s drop prevents the singer from occupying the top slots on both the singles and album chart in the same week. Her new album Messy Little Raindrops becomes Cole’s second chart-topping album.

The X-Factor effect is obvious as Shakespear’s Sisters’ 1992 hit “Stay” vaults 64-12, following a performance on the show. Recently Adele’s rendition of “Make You Feel My Love” raced the charts after X-Factor re-activation.
