Katy Perry’s U.S. Hot Shot Debut “Teenage Dream”

CHART SPOTLIGHT. This week, Katy Perry returns to the Billboard Hot 100 with the title track of the upcoming album Teenage Dream. The set is slated for release this August and the first single, “California Gurls,” has already topped the European Hot 100 Singles chart, Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. “Teenage Dream” is a reflection of Perry’s teenage love.

The track is produced by Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco. Martin and Dr. Luke also penned her debut hit “I Kissed a Girl” from 2008. Further to its release on Jul.23, “Teenage Dream” has already entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No.20 as this week’s Hot Shot Debut. “California Gurls” holds the No.2 position on the tally in its eleventh week.

The track also tops the Billboard Radio Songs and Pop Songs charts, while remaining the biggest song on UK radio. It reached a massive audience of 66.6m people last week, despite a 21% decline in audience reach. The song features rap by Snoop Dogg and is currently No.4 on the UK singles chart.

UPDATE: “Teenage Dream” entered the Swedish singles tally in August 2010. It spent 18 weeks on the chart, peaking just outside the top twenty (No.21). As of February 2011, the download had sold more than 3.2m in the US alone. The single peaked at No.2 in the UK.
