CHART SPOTLIGHT. The folk band Fleet Foxes pose a serious threat to Adele’s reign atop the album chart in the UK. Fleet Foxes’ sophomore set Helplessness Blues vaults into No.2, ahead of Jennifer Lopez’ Love? (No.6) and Beastie Boys’ Hot Sauce Committee Pt.2 (No.9).
CHART SPOTLIGHT. According to MusicWeek, one out of ten albums sold in the UK was Adele’s. Her amazing performance helped the whole market to survive a slump. Her 21 album still tops the UK album chart, while Adele’s debut 19 resurged in sales. In total, 2.22m copies were shifted in the first quarter resulting in a 1.5% growth year-on-year. Subtracting Adele’s figures, the record market would drop 8.7% year-on-year instead.
The recent performance at the 2011 BRIT Awards certainly paid off for Adele whose “Someone Like You” bows atop the singles chart this Sunday. Back in January, WelcheMusic started the countdown to the release of 21. This follows “Rolling in the Deep” which peaked at No.2 upon its release. “Deep” remains on the singles chart, moving 5-4.
CHART SPOTLIGHT. The WelcheMusic team is seriously looking forward to the Jan.24 release of 21 by the English singer/songwriter Adele. The set is preceded by the new single “Rolling in the Deep” which is out officially on Jan.16th. The single has already managed to peak at No.1 on the Dutch singles chart! Adele has already attracted attention of her performance of the new track “Someone Like You” on Later Live…With Jools Holland.
