Swedish CEO Takes Grey’s Anatomy with Storm

CHART REFLECTION. Swedish singer Eric Berglund’s solo project CEO was featured on Grey’s Anatomy the other week. His album White Magic spent a sole week on the Swedish album chart and the single “Come with Me” was a critics favorite upon its release in 2010. The WelcheMusic team still thinks the track deserves wider recognition.

And being featured on Grey’s Anatomy might just do the trick. The track was included in the episode “Not Responsible,” which was aired on Feb.25. It will be broadcasted by Swedish Kanal 5 in due course, the current season premiers this coming Wednesday.

Eric Berglund was a former member of The Tough Alliance, an electronic pop group that produced two hits in 2004. “Holiday” peaked at No.34, while “Make It Happen” made it to No.54.

The Moniker At Risk of Getting Sued

CHART REFLECTION. No sooner had The Moniker qualified for the Melodifestivalen final than he got into a fight with his ex-manager Reginald Austin. According to Swedish news daily Expressen, the manager claims that he received no payment for his work.

Daniel Karlsson aka The Moniker was one of two entries to qualify for the coveted final on Saturday with “Oh My God.” The ex-manager claims that he worked hard to revitalize Daniel Karlsson’s career for the purpose of securing the Melodifestivalen participation. Daniel Karlsson got his national breakthrough as an Idol finalist back in 2007, ending up as No.4.

“A year ago, Daniel did nothing, and his career went nowhere. That’s why everyone was so delighted that he qualified for Melodifestivalen,” Reginald Austin says in a comment. Austin claims that he wasn’t paid for his work as The Moniker didn’t return any calls abruptly ending their business relation.

His former record label, Lionheart, adds that The Moniker switched record labels. In the artist’s defence, neither the record label nor the manager had signed any written contracts. Let’s see where this ends. It’s safe to say that Reginald Austin won’t cast his vote on “Oh My God” come Saturday.

Christina Aguilera Sued Over Sample

CHART REFLECTION. Burlesque diva Christina Aguilera has another problem on her hands. Not only has her chart career somewhat stalled, now Aguilera and her label Sony Music are being sued for not clearing a sample used in “Ain’t No Other Man” from 2006.  The track used a sample of “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” as performed by Dave Cortez & The Moon People. Aguilera peaked at No.8 on the Hot 100 and even won a Grammy for that song. The publishing company TufAmerica makes the claim as it has the exclusive rights to this 1968 hit. “Ain’t No Other Man” peaked at No.15 in Sweden and No.2 in the UK.

RedOne Will Represent Russia with Alexey Vorobyov

CHART REFLECTION. As previously reported, Love Generation unfortunately failed to qualify for the 2011 Melodifestivalen final this Saturday. The debacle and further criticism has led to SVT revealing the actual results and despite an error in the voting procedure this didn’t affect the results.

While Lady Gaga’s producer RedOne failed to represent Sweden in the Eurovision final, he recently won the Russian final. Alexey Vorobyov will participate with “Get You,” signed by RedOne. Vorobyov reigns from Tula and was one of the winners of The Secret of Success, a musical project in 2005. He signed a record deal with Universal Music Russia the year after.

In 2010, Russia ended at No.11 in the Oslo final with Peter Nalitch & Friends’ “Lost and Forgotten.” WelcheMusic recommends Eurovision.TV for further reading and keeps fingers crossed that RedOne will succeed in the German final.
