The Wanted Goes Comic Relief with Gold Forever

CHART SPOTLIGHT. Singing the official Comic Relief song has become a surefire way of getting a UK No.1. Since 1995, only one hit single has failed to reach the summit – The Saturdays’ “Just Can’t Get Enough.” It would come as a surprise if The Wanted was denied the No.1 position. WelcheMusic thinks the infectious hit “Gold Forever” sounds like the perfect blend between Alphaville’s “Forever Young” and Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

The official 2011 Comic Relief song is slated for release on March 14, but you can see the video via Directlyrics pop blog.

The Comic Relief charity was initiated by comedy scriptwriters Richard Curtis and Alexander Mendis back in 1985, being characterized by the Red Nose Day. The following songs have been released as official Comic Relief songs since 1986 (peak pos.):

  • 1986 – Cliff Richard and the cast of The Young Ones: Living Doll (1)
  • 1987 – Mel Smith & Kim Wilde: Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (3)

  • 1991 – Hale and Pace: The Stonk (1)
