Gaga Knocks X-Factor Winner Off the Top

Joe McElderry falls back 2-1 on the first chart week of the century. He’s being replaced by Lady Gaga, who spends a tenth week on the chart. “Bad Romance” is her third No.1, succeding “Paparazzi,” that peaked at No.4. Both “Poker Face” and “Just Dance” topped the tally, White “LoveGame” only manager to climb to No.19. She has already reached No.30 with the Beyoncé duet “Telephone,” a track that will be officially released on Feb.22. In the world of legal downloads, album tracks can manage to reach the charts anyways. The track is also available on the first WelcheMusic compilation issued last week.

The Black Eyed Peas moves 6-3 with “Meet Me Halfway,” White Ke$ha makes a U-turn and climbs 10-4 in its 9th week. This is the highest position ever for that track.

We’ve already mentioned Journey’s Facebook campaign on WelcheMusic and the group remins at No.7 with “Don’t Stop Believin’,” adling a 62th week. It seems as if Rage Against the Machine’s Facebook campaign is finally over. “Killing in the Name” falls 2-40 this Week. Xmas is finally over.

Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini makes a surprise move from 14-1 in his 31th Week with Sunny Side Up. The album debuted at No.1 upon its release in May last year. His biggest hit to date is “Last Request” from 2006.

Ne-Yo Comes to Sweden in February

CHART SPOTLIGHT. WelcheMusic brings you great news at the start of the year. Ne-Yo will perform at the Baltic Hall in Malmö, Sweden, on Feb.25th. This will be his first performance ever in this country. Throughout the ’00s, Ne-Yo has had phenomonal success as both a song-writer and artist. His debut album In My Own Words was released in early 2006, including his first hit “So Sick.” As a song-writer, he has written tracks such as “Unfaithful” and “Take a Bow.” Last year, he was featured on Keri Hilson’s world-wide hit “Knock You Down.”

UPDATED: Ne-Yo had a hugely succesful 2010 thanks to the release of Libra Scale in November. The set spawned four singles, including the “Beautiful Monster”which topped the UK singles tally as well as the US dance chart. Ne-Yo succeeded boy band The Wanted’s “All Time Low.” Ne-Yo’s follow-up single “Champagne Life” only managed to reach No.75 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Countdown to February Release of New Sade Set

CHART SPOTLIGHT. There is a lot of anticipation for Sade’s February release of the album Soldier of Love. This is the first album since Lovers Rock was issued ten years ago, and the title track was released to radio in early December last year. Although Sade is an English group, Lovers Rock was a greater success outside the home country. While the set peaked at No. 18 in the UK, it reached No.2 on the Billboard 200.

One of WelcheMusic’s favorites, “No Ordinary Love,” was the lead single off the 1992 album Love Deluxe. It was originally released in 1992, but was re-released the year after finally peaking at No.14 in the UK. By then, it had also gained exposure in the 1993 movie Indecent Proposal starring Robert Redford and Demi Moore. Despite the recognition, it wasn’t included on the soundtrack. Instead, Lisa Stansfield’sIn All the Right Places” was the lead track.

WelcheMusic VS – Original vs. Cover

CHART PLAYLIST. You can judge a book by its cover. But it turns out to be quite hard to distinguish if some of the hits we love (or hate) really are originals? WelcheMusic compiled a set of tracks where we let the original go head-to-head with the cover version. Did you know that “Bette Davis Eyes” originally was a hit for Jackie DeShannon? Or that Tiffany’sI Think We’re Alone Now” was a hit for Tommy James & The Shondells?
