Glee+Max Martin=True

CHART REFLECTION. We’re looking forward to the return of Glee. WelcheMusic has already covered that Lykke Li’s music will be featured in the show, and for the first time the program will include original content. Two new songs will be released and our own favorite producer Max Martin has written one track for the new set Glee The Music: Volume 5 which was released on Monday.

Max Martin has co-written “Loser Like Me.” The other new song is called “Get It Right.” According to Music Week, Murray Rose, Head of Marketing at Glee’s record label Epic says that one of the reasons for this new route is that “radio can be reticent to play a cover.” Glee will keep to its original concept with covers, but viewers can expect new songs to appear in future episodes.

“Loser Like Me” is already topping the US iTunes chart with sales of 210,000 copies. Max Martin currently tops the Billboard Hot 100 with Katy Perry’s “E.T.”.

Adele Single-Handily Makes Up for Albums Dip

CHART SPOTLIGHT. According to MusicWeek, one out of ten albums sold in the UK was Adele’s. Her amazing performance helped  the whole market to survive a slump. Her 21 album still tops the UK album chart, while Adele’s debut 19 resurged in sales. In total, 2.22m copies were shifted in the first quarter resulting in a 1.5% growth year-on-year. Subtracting Adele’s figures, the record market would drop 8.7% year-on-year instead. WelcheMusic will keep a close eye on the development.

Not since Dire Straits’ 1986 set Brothers in Arms, an album has spent that many weeks atop the album chart in the UK.

Basshunter Returns to Big Brother

CHART REFLECTION. Last January, Basshunter competed in the reality show Celebritu  Big Brother in the UK and this week he returns to the series – albeit the Swedish version according to Aftonbladet. Née Jonas Altberg, the 26-year old initially made a national breakthrough with “Boten Anna” in 2006. The track became a huge success in Sweden and was translated to “Now You’re Gone” in its international version. The track topped the UK singles chart for five weeks.

Not a contestant, Basshunter’s purpose of attending the show is getting publicity and produce a song with help from the other Big Brother participants. The show – as always – has made the headlines. Only recently, Rodney da Silva saluted Hitler on air which is a clear violation of Swedish law. No stranger to headlines, Basshunter himself has been faced with sex charges in Scotland.

WelcheMusic is eager to see whether the Big Brother stay will produce a new hit. The last Basshunter single to make the ten was the 2008 hit “Please Don’t Go” which peaked at No.6.

In addition to translating “Boten Anna,” the 2006 hit “Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA” was translated to “All I Ever Wanted” which made it to No.2 in the UK.
