Bangles’ Eternal Flame Turns 25 This Week

Time does fly. This week, Bangles’ ‘Eternal Flame’ made its leap to the top of the Swedish singles chart. Included on the 1988 album “Everything,” the track was written by Tom Kelly, Billy Steinberg and Bangles’ singer Susanna Hoffs. Kelly and Steinberg have written numerous hits such as Cyndi Lauper’s ‘’True Colors’ and ‘I Drove All Night,’ The Pretenders’ ‘I’ll Stand By You’ as well as Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin.’

Back then, The Bangles was only the third girl group to hit No.1 several times following The Supremes and The Shirelles. Originally issued in February 1989, the track topped the Billboard Hot 100 in April when it succeeded Mike + The Mechanics’ ‘The Living Years.’ It was a UK No.1 in April, while it reached the top in Norway and Australia in June.

The track returned to No.1 in 2001 with the girl group Atomic Kitten as part of the re-issue of its “Right Now” album.

It has also been covered in Japanese by the singer Tomoya Nagase, together with Michael Jackson’s nephews 3T. That 1997 version was included in the TV drama DXD where Nagase starred.

In 1999, Australian group Human Nature covered the track reaching No.8 on the national ARIA charts. Haven sold more than 1.6m records in Australia, the group was originally named The 4 Trax. They currently perform Motown songs on the Las Vegas Strip.

Kelli-Leigh Returns to No.1 with I Wanna Feel

#ChartFact #House Yes, you’re absolutely right – it is Toni Braxton’s 1996 song ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ that you constantly hear on the radio. And, yes – it’s the same singer who brought you Duke Damont’s ‘I Got You.’ Introducing Kelli-Leigh, the vocalist on SecondCity’s UK No.1 ‘I Wanna Feel.’

Kelli-Leigh is a songer/songwriter who introduced her first EP back in November 2011. As a session singer, she has provided backing vocals for Adele’s ’21’ tour as well as working with Leona Lewis.

Back to SecondCity, the Anglo-American DJ Rowan Harrington was born in Chicago back in 1987. In an interview with OfficialCharts.com, he says “I can’t believe my single, ‘I Wanna Feel,’ has gone to Number 1.” To date, ‘I Wanna Feel’ has sold more than 82,000 copies to take the No.1 spot.

Toni Braxton’s ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ was originally issued at the end of May 1996. The track was written by Babyface and Bryce Wilson who also produced the single. It was the lead single off Braxton’s sophomore album Secrets, peaking at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached No.7 in the UK, which means that Kelli-Leigh bested Braxton’s original peak.

‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ was released as a double-A side single featuring the soundtrack cut ‘Let It Flow’ off the movie Waiting to Exhale. ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ was followed by ‘Un-Break My Heart’ in October that year.

Ed Sheeran Enjoys His First No.1 with ‘I See Fire’

Ed Sheeran remains atop the Swedish singles tally this week with The Hobbit soundtrack cut ‘I See Fire.’ Sheeran’s third hit in this country, both ‘The A Team’ and ‘Little Things’ peaked at No.27. The Engllish singer-songwriter hasn’t managed to climb into the top ten in his home country, haven topped the tallies in Belgium, New Zealand, Norway and the Philippines.

Sheeran knocked Ke$ha and Pitbull off the top a couple of weeks ago, ‘Timber’ remains at No.2 Not much has happened in this week’s top ten as positions 1-7 remains unchanged. A Great Big World moves 12-8 with ‘Say Something.’ The only new entry comes in at No.52 as ‘Younger’ with Seinabo Sey.

The Top 5 Biggest Sean Paul Hits in Sweden

Welcoming Sean Paul to Sweden, the Jamaican dancehall singer performed during last night’s Idol. Sean Paul is here to promote the latest album Full Frequency, slated for release on Nov. 4. Included, is his latest single ‘Turn It Up.’

Sean Paul has collaborated with producers such as Stargate, The Cataracs and Benny Blanco. The first single ‘Other Side of Love’ topped the UK R&B singles chart earlier this fall and was produced by Benny Blanco and The Cataracs.

In an interview with Aftonbladet, Sean Paul hails Miriam as a probable Idol winner. He also commend the Swedish success duo Icona Pop. “They’re really great. I like their song. I love it, my mother loves it and my grandma loves it. I’ve heard my grandma singing ’I don’t care..’,” he says.

Looking back on Sean Paul’s chart career, these are his greatest achievements on the Swedish singles chart to date.

‘We Be Burnin’’ was produced by Renaissance Crew Productions and was the first single off Sean Paul’s third installment The Trinity. The track spent 20 weeks on the Swedish singles chart, finally peaking at No.14. It was a UK No.2, eventually peaking at No.6 on the Hot 100.

Lyrics from ‘Like Glue’ was originally included meant for ‘Gimme the Light,’ but transformed into a new song. T.O.K’s ‘Money 2 Burn’ is used as a sample on the track. The track spent 14 weeks on the singles chart, finally peaking at No.13.
